As a Reg (ex TA) soon to be civie, I couldnt care who is better than who ....all I saw was that the HAC punched well above their weight in Basra ....and no other TA unit was able to mission-task itself. They won some good jobs on merit and did the best mission debriefs i've seen since LRRPS school.

(that said, their CO was a nobber and I couldnt tell which bod to salute or not - and they all minced about reading the FT)

FYI:- Fine turn-out by the Londons - who took a while to get it right - but did eventually and my attached TA gunners (105?) where pretty good too. smart lads who shut up and blended in.

21 were a bunch of c@cks and 3Para got the short end when they picked them up.....

    Fair point MTS,

Kudos to all those TA from London who have deployed, Londons, HAC and the rest.

I think Mr Benn's comment on their war fighting was a little dig at them for the fact that they spent many years before Telic telling all and sundry that they were awfully important and were bound to be the first ones called up on mobilisation whereas it was the WDs who got their brown envelopes January 03 for the first trip to the sandpit and a little rosette on their medal.

..but as has been stated, we've all been there and done the job now.

The WDs are still the finest TA unit in London though!!

I'm sure some roughie toughie (V) Commando Engineers where there too... tasked to do an opposed beach landing... tricky one...OP. CERTAIN DEATH as the blokes called it until the Head Shed found out...

Its an odd little number, smells musty, like an old trench coat stored in a damp cupboard. There is also a youthful zest for life, I'm sensing a feeling of eagerness to breakout and explore new horizons, with a hint of strong tradition, chestnuts roasting over an open fire. Will go with anything, but there is always the question "why?"

No other TA unit was allowed to Mission Task itself! Then again, did any other TA unit know someone who knew someone who fagged for a General at Eton and took a warm crumpet between the cheeks without blubbing?

Just read back my last post and realised that I'd been nice about other units.

I apologise unreservedly, I will in future revert to full scale slagging of everyone who doesnt wear my cap badge and can only put down the brief aberation in my behaviour down to the mellow mood induced by a sunny Friday afternoon without a 19.30 first parade stopping me going down the pub.

Just before I do, good mention by BB - 131 always seem to be a decent bunch of lads.

    Doh, done it again!
