And who remembers welcoming a newly commissioned SSLC officer to the mess?

Hello Toby - great to see you. We call this a "Duty Officer Roster" - you'll find you figure very prominently. It'll do wonders to develop your leadership potential, and closing down the Jock's bar is the closest thing you'll get to combat. And not that far off, actually.

Anyway, lovely to meet you anyway. Hope you settle in quickly, I'm sure you'll find the mess steward and the cleaner quite friendly - we'll see you again in the second week of January - enjoy Christmas!

Where's CaptainPlume when you need him (3LtPlume as he was then)
I can see it now, in a decade ARRSE will be full of young thrusters who will be complaining about all the old farts who go on about HERRICK, lurk in the office, "enable" stuff and how it's got fuck all to do with what's going on now.

Well SBSR arn't TA of course. The other lot seem to be desperately looking for a more retention positive job than backfilling for the RMP.

i fought the m.o.d. for 9 years, to stay in after i had an illness...... and passed 5 medical boards, to prove myself fit and capable and 100% commited. to doing an infantrymans job .... and still got a med discharge, and eventually gave up fighting against idiots in charge of a thing they havent got a clue running. as usual, if summit goes up......they will yet again prove to everyone that we havent got the manpower or the resources.

WTF are you on? You had an illness which you were put on 5 Med boards for? You still got medically discharged and you still think you know better than the highly trained Medical Officers that followed the rules and discharged you?

You didn't give up fighting against people who, in your opinion, didn't have a clue really did you, you got medically discharged!

As for the rant about funding Op Herrick instead of hospitals & schools, tell that to those who have lost family members or those who were maimed.
