There are other ways to train.

Try a mixture, long runs in PT kit, you can add weight.
Hill walking with a heavy pack.
Cross country, add weight if required.

Thanks! What type of weight should I get use to running with? Should I get my body use to more than what you run with at P-Company?

Just work on your CV fitness by running in good fitting trainers and running kit. The 4 Para cadre is progressive and specifically designed will give you all of the tabbing practice you will need to get through P Coy.

Don't worry too much, build your base level of fitness up first.

On the 10 miler you can get into a rythm, the 2 miler is the struggle.

    Thanks.

Is there anything else that I should prepare for?

    I have already told you:

Get your CV fitness up by running - a lot. Mix up interval work, short fast runs and longer steadier runs. Do a few press ups and sit ups because these will appear with great regularity.

Everything else will be shown to you on the cadre by the staff, rather than people on the internet who may or may not know what they are talking about.

The Lake District is around an hours drive away from me - is it a good place to train?

Yes - because it is hilly. Get up there and do some fell running or hill reps.

I don't know how many times I have to post this before it sinks in, but one last attempt:

Don't worry about training with weight or long walks over the moors. Get your trainers on, get out running and push yourself further and faster each time. Everything else will be covered in the cadre.

Dont worry, The Duke - it was received loud and clear the first time

Excellent! Over the years I have seen people start the cadre after all sorts of preparation routines, and that one is by far and away the most successful.

We have had the gym queen who had arms the size of thighs and could bench press the QE2, but did no cardio work and was blown out after 2 miles of tabbing.

We have had the "I spent hours walking up hills with 3cwt of sand in a rucksack" but was incapable of moving at anything faster than a snail's pace.

We had a cycle courier who was as fit as you like, but only as long as his legs were going round in circles and who really struggled on the TABs.

Bottom line - run, and look and learn as the staff cover the techniques for tabbing, log and stretcher.
