I can see it now, in a decade ARRSE will be full of young thrusters who will be complaining about all the old farts who go on about HERRICK, lurk in the office, "enable" stuff and how it's got fuck all to do with what's going on now.

Perhaps it is because those sentiments are not mythical...
Have you ever actually worked with the HAC or are you basing your opinion on rumours you have heard down the TAC after a drill night. Ever met a member of the HAC who is a millionaire, poof or walt? There are a couple from each category but no more than you'd expect from any random selection of people.
Your anti HAC stance screams of the usual jealousy expected from TA bods who are bitter and twisted because their TA career isn't quite as enriching as one that could be gained elsewhere.

When the feck around factor with my old mob just got too high I transferred. I went to meet the HAC and was made to feel about as welcome as a fart in a space suit. I was asked what academic and professional qualifications I had to which I said, not very much immediately followed by what do I do for a living. I was only slightly redeemed by the fact that I work for a large investment bank, at that point it was, do they have a policy of sponsoring the reserve forces and the upcoming catalogue of events was rattled off. Sadly I got the distinct impression my face didn't fit and that I might be tolerated if my wealthy employer would be able to help them out. I never went back.
One might ask the same of you? After all you are far too young to remember those godawful TA promotion courses at RSA, where the HAC skived off anything to do with signals pleading their speshul secret duties...so why perpetuate the myth of the Hooray Henry HAC Trooper?
As we all know, a whole heap of possible options are being floated by both cutters and cuttees. The cutters are painting a ghastly picture so we will all be relieved when it turns out 'not to be as bad as all that'; the cuttees are painting an equally dire picture in the hope of mobilising the media, public opinion.
It doesn't take the brains of an Einstein to figure out what's at risk: LSDI focused capabilities; and other bits of spare fat that can be relatively easily regenerated somewhere down the line. Some will be redeployed, others will be put in a sack with a couple of half bricks and chucked off the canal bridge at midnight.
The TA SAS regiments have been under threat since the end of the Cold War because, while they generate a very high quality soldier, they are still part-time and are never going to be the same beast, or give the same bang for the buck, as their regular counterpart. When all is said and done, UKSF essentially amounts to 6 independently deployable company groups and the TA SAS don't add a huge amount to that equation.
