I can see it now, in a decade ARRSE will be full of young thrusters who will be complaining about all the old farts who go on about HERRICK, lurk in the office, "enable" stuff and how it's got fuck all to do with what's going on now.
So you would fight to keep an organisation out of touch with the reality of our situation. That's triffic, really it is, well done.
Ok, What is your reality of our situation?, and does it have any relevance to the future after Herrick, which will not last that long now?
I understand the proper need for change in the right way - most definitely, but not wholesale slashing for ignorant short term benefit while ignoring all the good that it does for society (or big society............etc)
This thread should really be titled "SDSR and the TA".
Pardon me if I appear to be banging a drum but, is there really much point in having Infantry or RAC TA with the imminent pruning? Infanteering (+ some tank driving) is a trade that needs to be practised as much as any other, and you can't do that in civvy street to the same degree as you can with AAC/RAMC/RMP/AGC/RLC/RE/Int.
I confess I don't really know where I stand with RA - there's lots of nerdy stuff there and there is plenty of opportunity to culvitavte nerdiness in civvy street.

When I'm in the back of a wokka, I really hope that everyone responsible for keeping it in the air has had a hell of a lot of practice. Infantry have been called upon more than anyone else and some (note, some not all) of those provided have been of an excellent standard. Why get rid of the part thats definitely working?

Wokka are RAF . . . although you may be prescient in saying that Wokkas will be in Not-so-Teeny-Weeny Airlines after the SDSR. ;)
Both RN and RAF have ex-reg only reservist pilots. Guess what they do in their civvy jobs?

Why? It's in the TA forum.
As to RAC - it's the cheapest way to get the CVR(T) fixed. They get fixed up perfectly, get taken off you and sent off to Afghan, get one back in poor shape in return - fix it up and the cycle happens again. And while all that happens the boys learn, train, go on exercise, do operations, teach. For the CVR(T) based Yeomanry it actually works.
(In my place it does.)(I'll try to find the pic of a scimitar in Afghan, owned by a regular unit but with still the QOY stickers on it)
