So, Creature; to sum up; you don't really know about the Infantry.
Bravo Bravo sets himself a depressingly low standard which he consistently fails to achieve.

. Good post Polar, I agree. However Although the teaching of more indepth VP is always a must, isn't the use of BATCO being phased out due to BOWMAN. Don't get me wrong I think BATCO is a brilliant system for unsecure Comms and should be taught to all ICP ops, but really BOWMAN makes unsecure the thing of the past with crypto. I know BOWMAN can be taught quite quickly and therfore some think not taught well enough, but It was designed to be that way a new system that any signals soldier can get used to. "in therory". I no it's not perfect mind you.

Based on the quality of your posts, that could be some time.
‘Good God!’ he laughed, and slowly filled his pipe,
Wondering ‘why he always talked such tripe’.

I have terrible skill fade it's been along time since I tried to stay awake in a bowman lesson. But if you accidently delete your fill, there is a back up frequency for the bowman if this does happen and if my memory is correct, you don't have to use BATCO in theory, you just do your thing with correct VP and ask for another fill. But someone like polor could explain if I'm right or wrong it's been a while.

...and that's where I think we're starting to go into a bit too much detail...

Yes correct, when I did mine it was called TARU but use of the term RRU was more common because it's what the regulars were familiar with.
Is this what was previously known as the Platoon Signaller's cadre? (Which I completed 5 months before passing off as a trained soldier )

Those were the days, my friends. We thought they'd never end...
"Hurrah for the Works Group" just doesn't have the same ring...

"A volunteer is worth ten pressed men."
So, a TA battalion or nine Regular Guards battalions? Not a difficult choice, then (especially as we don't have nine Regular Guards battalions).

I am a number. I am not a free man.

I did my TARU/RRU in 1988.... never heard of that cadre

It was 1976, the days when manpack radios were named after roads.

Polar, if you think TA BOWMAN can be taught in 5x40 minute lessons then you're deluding yourself.
Don't sit on the fence, it will jag your arrse.

Dougal: Oho, Ted, the Italians know about football, all right. And fashion. God Ted, do you remember that man who was so good at fashion, they had to shoot him?

fcuk him, if he's too slow, he's dead!

I hope I am wrong but I expect it to be the case...... you might be able to guess what I'm assuming is going to happen.

    Re: TA Signals

Having just finished my CSC(TA), the Bowman content of the current course is 14 teaching periods, 2 revision periods and one test. Including, for the_creature's benefit, how to get new fill. Hint: it involves BATCO...

Speaking as an ex-ICS Op 3, you need to do this course. Ironically enough (it being half as long) I'd describe it as a class 3 trade course plus. From my recollection, my class 3 covered a lot of subjects in not a lot of depth, with the expectation that your sqn/tp would bring you up to speed on their equipments. CSC tries to produce a finished product (and comes far closer, having the advantage of teaching precisely one equipment.)

It was truly a pleasure to not have to do any SMP, though....and finally have my signalling genius recognised ;)
