I'm not having a go at the TA, it's just a counter-winge when they try and claim regular soldiers have it so easy with all this time off, free housing, free food, free education that some believe we get :D
1. His unit needs to get a grip and organise some training, PT or otherwise.
2. The "few ranks higher" bloke is right - you cannot organise PT without a PTI/ETL. If he had turned a blind eye and someone had subsequently injured themselves all hell would have broken loose.
My bold.
That's the situation I thought it was. Our unit doesn't have a PTI at present, but we recently completed a PFT, on a voluntary basis. The last and first drill nights of the month have been designated for PT, and we have a CFT coming up. I wonder what will happen if someone does get seriously injured.

True, you don't get anymore time to do phys (apart from organised PT) but the lifestyle does make it easier, hence TA blokes doing FTRS or Pre-deployment training/tours and coming back fitter than they've ever been. And your mates encourage you and compete with you.
That's not making excuses by the way as being fit should be a matter of personal pride and there's plenty you can do without having a gym a short walk away.
So although I agree with you, I know there is a small element of truth to being a full time soldier making it slightly easier. But you're right it's no excuse and the myths of you getting loads of extra time for doing it are unfounded.
I agree Im on FTRS and only get one CO' s fizz session on a Friday then a dept sess on Thursday everything else is done in own time ie lunch or after work, some depts may let you go off work permitting to do PT but mostly own time is used !
Aside from that...
You cannot-
Organise MSFTs, sprints, sports etc
Take recruits (everyone needs to be a fully trained soldier)
You can -
Risk assess and therefore take, low level endurance runs
Do warm-ups and cool-downs for any sports
Assist with a CFT
If a PTI has set some exercise (and done the appropriate risk assessment), and for some reason fails to turn up to afforementioned exercise that is on your training schedule, you can take it.
Last bit is the key. Get a PTI to set out your sports/fun runs whatever. Then ETL can take over when the PTI 'fails to turn up'.
IN other words, stop whinging and get yourself on an ETL course- one weekend is all it takes. Remember though there is a reason the BASIC PTI course takes two weeks and an ETL course takes a weekend.
Either that or find an NCO with a lesson in his back pocket as has been said. Or get some good person to wing it. Oh and I take issue with the comment about medics not being best placed to teach BCDT. We do the same course to teach it you know, and we know your limits
BB, have a word with your medics then. That is what the BCDT instructors course was invented for. Drills and skills for all of us at the appropriate level. Follow the book and you shouldn't go wrong. What you said.
