The weight is not TA standard, but a capbadge one. Support arms carry 15Kg, except RA and RAC who carry 20Kg. Infantry , Airborne and Commando units carry 25Kg. This is all regardless of Regular or TA.

As for the 5 miles, I don't think that's standard to anyone. You sure it wasn't 6 or 8 miles?

Just to slightly pedantic the RAC are a combat arm (who just happen to carry 20KG) and the RE also carry 20KG

Apologies for the error. Wasn't a rant, just trying to clarify matters before some TA Infantryman reads that and then invariably tips up to his next CFT proclaiming, "Why do we have to carry 25Kg, we're only TA ...it must be true I read it on ARRSE ... etc."

Some TA battalions have a two weekend beat up before sending their candidates on the TA version. Perhaps a good idea to do a similar selection cadre for Signals units?

RP578 good point that i myself was going to raise. My battalion holds weekend beat up's of all basic tests depending on the course (CFT, PFA, WHT anything that is involved on said course ect). They are then given a colour based on how they performed, red, amber, green.

Red- No way sunny jim
amber- hmm not sure, put him on another beat up weekend
green- Good to go on said Course.

Failing a CFT or PFA will result in red however if plenty of time before course dates given amber. however some are not so lucky.

WHT- failing will be given a colour depending on the Course. usually if minor fail and no serious saftey issues is sent out of classroom and gets another go on the current beat up weekend depending on the instructor. again not all are lucky, Due to there being plenty skill at arms revision for soldiers on the beat up.

polor 69 why did they put you on the Course. why did your unit not prepare you, why did you not prepare yourself.

But I can still pass an 8 mile AFT (CFT is so old hat) even in my 27th year of service, which is more than some on here apparently :D :D

No, I think I need to apologise for my previous comments as I see why my comments are causing confusion.

I'm no PTI but something somewhere is wrong. Polar69 is not unfit and I would put money on him passing a CFT (neither is the other guy an unfit - pie guzzling mini bused arrsed scallie).
