Re: Qualifications in the TA
Well, your psi or someone senior at the TA centre should be more than happy to acquaint you with the "big book of courses". However you probably wont get on any until after phase two. No harm in asking though is there .

Polar69 is spot on, Don't even bother till after phase 2 then won't do anything for you.

Re: Qualifications in the TA
Depending on your unit role there will be plenty of courses out there for you,However they will not be available until you complete all of your phase1&2 trg and then only according to your rank and the requirements of the role you will fill within the unit.

Re: Qualifications in the TA
CIC - Combat Infantryman's Course held at Catterick
PNCO - Potential Non-Commissioned Officer usually at Catterick, although some Bns do run in-house
SCBC - Section Commanders Battle Course at Brecon
PSBC - Platoon Sergeants Battle Course at Brecon
You also have PCBC - Platoon Commanders Battle Course at Brecon.
These are obviously just for the Infantry.

Re: Qualifications in the TA
You are infantry, so the course you should be aware of is CIC - Combat Infantryman's Course. This is your phase two training - so after you have done your Phase one weekends, wait out to be booked onto one.
PNCO, SCBC are Career Courses which qualify you to be put forward for promotion. But you need not worry about them just yet.
Edit: beaten to it.

Re: Qualifications in the TA
CIC: Combat Infantryman Course - in the TA, this is your 'Phase 2' or special to arm training. Regulars now do their entire basic training as one continuous training block in Catterick and call both the Phase 1 & 2 parts CIC. You'll do your Phase 1 at a localised Recruit Training Centre.

The Regulars do a 6 week course, but the TA battalions usually require you to do a series of module courses to get your tick in the box for promotion, i.e. Radio users course, Defence Instructional Techniques course etc.
SCBC: Section Commanders Battle Course - Known as "Junior Brecon" this is an arduous course at Brecon to qualify you as a Section Commander in a Rifle Platoon and hence promotion to full Corporal.
PSBC: Platoon Serjeants Battle Course - Known as "Senior Brecon" for your third stripe in a Rifle platoon.
These are career courses, there are many other instructor courses that you can pick up along the way too.
