    Retirement

Just had this email from a friend, and I think it's worth sharing.

    Dear Comrades,

As I retire today, I remember that
It is 41 years since I first put on Battle Dress with the Wessex Brigade cap badge
It is 38 years since I joined the Regular Army 2424
It is 36 years since I was commissioned into REME 495
It is 24 years since I last heard an IRA explosion
It is 23 years since I was last promoted (comfortable in current rank as the reports said)
It is 18 years since I joined the TA
It is 11 years since I joined the Pool
It is 8 years since I drank Gunfire in the snow in Pristina
It is 5 years since I heard gunfire, celebratory or otherwise, felt explosions or lived in a Palace
It is 13 days since my son went out to Helmand Province
So, the old order changeth, yielding pace to new.....if any of you find yourselves with the Grenadier Guards Battle Group, look out for Lieutenant X. Who knows he may join the Pool in 2030?

    Michael
    Major (until midnight)

    Farewell.

May you retire in peace in the full knowledge that you did your bit.
Have Faith....it'll all be OK in the end (but then again, with the GCM and FR2020, maybe it won't be.....).
