    'S' type engagement

Does the S type engagement still exist? Or is it just the FTRS now a days?

The English are feeling the pinch in relation to recent terrorist threats and have raised their security level from "Miffed" to "Peeved." Soon, though, security levels may be raised yet again to "Irritated" or even "A Bit Cross." The English have not been "A Bit Cros...s" since the blitz in 1940

I think it has been FTRS for about a decade now...
‘Good God!’ he laughed, and slowly filled his pipe,
Wondering ‘why he always talked such tripe’.

How does an S type differ from FTRS, can you get promoted on S type as you can't on FTRS etc?

S type is when you, normally, re-enlist and are to old to complete a notice engagement. You can only serve a maximum of 12 years on a S type (but I believe this is changing) and you can get promoted.
