Discuss Wasting Time in Just TA on The Army Rumour Service; Yeah, its nothing on the old one. At least the old one was slightly amusing, blokes sharpning bullets etc, dodgy tache's....
Use Drill nights for what they were originally intended (that's why they are called "drill" nights). The volunteers came in, did a bit of drill, got an admin update or changed a bit of kit and then went down the pub. Sounds like a great idea to me.
I have served with a unit that abandoned Drill night training. We had a four week cycle of a fun event, first works parade on the vehicles, Tp Cdrs disposal and an external speaker/demo. The evenings were split first parade, Troop admin, one of the four events above, personal admin (pay and all that stuff) and then final parade at 21.00 and off to the bar.
The trg was done at weekends where there was a critical mass of people, proper training sessions, good facilities and assessment. As such, if people didn't turn up on a drill night, it didn't matter. By and large, the weekends became very well attended, and training took a real uplift - at the end of the day, we didn't waste our time on Drill nights and no-one felt that there had to be "training".
When the CO changed, so did the plan and it all went back to rat sh*t akin to the first post on this thread.
you should be in the London reg (BILLY SMART'S CIRCUS ) you get fu**ed about for "FUN" and they wonder why no one turn's up. roll on 2006 when were back as GREEN JACKET'S
Yes son we cant wait till your back as Jackets, the sooner the better with an attitude like that. Hads any NDs lately?
When there is nothin to do they usually throw together a lesson, usually map reading or Harbour area drills...although our unit has nearly every NCO in every week so it's rare we have nothing to do and somethings usually planned....
If the lesson finishes early, sit off in the bar till last parade...
