Exactly the point I was trying to make.

Bit confused, were you leading a platoon as a Tom/JNCO?
No, I started as a Tom in the days of the old style BFT, rose to Sgt before commissioning. I then went on FTRS as an officer. The standards for officers remain unchanged, and I continue to meet them. The standard for recruit applications remain.....you can complete the rest.

Hellmett, I will leave you and your mates to your mutual self appreciation society, kidding each other that the system is unfair and that you should be commended for even thinking about it. Good luck.

If you can't jump through them, then you're not suitable. With regard to the comment that cold war warriors could run rings around todays recruits, what does it matter? The standards that are in place today have to be met. If you can't meet them, you're not suitable. Regardless of your previous service, because that doesn't matter.
I think your missing the point here mate!

We are well aware of the standards!
Then it's quite simple. Train so that you can meet the standards. or give up.

Guys, Get a fcuking grip. Hellmett, reality check. You do not meet the required standards. Regardless of age you gut is too big. Fcuk off for a bit loose the gut, come back and show them what your made of. Stop dripping and whinging on here about how much "experiance" you have or what you did in the eighties. Much respect for that but it counts for fcuk all now your out and trying to get back in. Also trying to goad people for your misgivings is pretty sh1t too.

Get your brain around what your trying to be. An infantry Soldier. Meet the standards, your in. Don't and your not. If you were out on Ops would you want someone next to you who didn't meet the required standards but was passed cos he was a "sweat" an was allright?

Re: Having another STAB at it.

I have no misgivings fella and I am certainly not goading anyone!

    You're yet another troll.

Having an extra 3cms around your waist doesn't make you unfit.

I've done more running, jogging, sprinting, press ups, sit ups, pull ups, etc. etc. etc. in the last 6 months than I have ever done.

I am fitter now than I have been in the past 20 years.

So, explain to me just how the hell could anyone expect to be medicalled on a Thursday night and passed fit to attend selection on the Saturday and be turned away because his waist size is 3cm over the allowed 94cm?

FFS, If I had of known this or my recruiting Sgt. had of known this do you honestly think I wouldn't have prepared?

I was told, by my RMO that acceptable BMI for the Infantry is 28 - 32 if you are are bruiser (to qualify your waist must also be 94cm or below)!

My BMI is 31 and I am a bruiser, my waist, as measured by the RMO on Thursday night was 93cm.

Now, someone PLEASE explain to me what I did wrong or how I could have prepared better?

    3cm is miniscule!

Maybe if I hadn't of had the 8 Weetabix and 2 bananas for brekkie I would have been ok!

I can see it now, in a decade ARRSE will be full of young thrusters who will be complaining about all the old farts who go on about HERRICK, lurk in the office, "enable" stuff and how it's got fuck all to do with what's going on now.

    yes you are.
    You're yet another troll.
No I ain't. I just disagree with you. Not a crime is it?

No your right it doesn't. However YOU DON'T MEET THE REQUIRED STANDARDS.
I've done more running, jogging, sprinting, press ups, sit ups, pull ups, etc. etc. etc. in the last 6 months than I have ever done.
Well done you. Thats no barometer for greatness though. You don't need to be better than your standards you need to meet the TA's standards, which, by the way, YOU DO NOT MEET.

    See above

you were turned away because (you guessed it) YOU DO NOT MEET THE STANDARDS
(Which, apparently is 94cm for your waist measurement)
FFS, If I had of known this or my recruiting Sgt. had of known this do you honestly think I wouldn't have prepared?
So you are saying you didn't prepare? Either way you should have prepared to the best of your ability. Not what you thought would be ok. If you did that then you have nothing to be ashamed of. Just crack on and I'm sure you'll pass when.... YOU MEET THE REQUIRED STANDARDS

I'll explain what you did wrong. YOU DIDN'T MEET THE REQUIRED STANDARDS. Simple really. Only you can know if you could have prepared better. If you did your best then well done but unlucky try again next time and i'm sure you'll pass. If you didn't, then you hve no one to blame but yourself.

Dry your eyes princess, stop fcuking dripping about it and crack on.

Re: Having another STAB at it.

Guys, to those of you rejoining or joining later in life etc. BLOODY GOOD LUCK to you!

Don't let any of the petty minded, pedantic, aggressive fuckwits here put you off.

Thankfully, they are an exception to the vast majority of our armed forces!

I've had enough of this stupid forum and it has done absolutely nothing to help me!

Just about every post on here ends up in insults and name calling!

    It is pathetic really!

I've better things to do with my time!

So, GOOD LUCK & GOD BLESS!

    I'm gone!
