One of my mates tried the "it's too icy to drive to work" last year. The Tp Ssgt phoned him and told him that everyone else in the Sqn had made it into work and that if they had to send the dutydriver to get him then he'd need to pack enough kit so that he could stay on camp till the weather improved, shockingly enough he was in work 45 minutes later.
