For the last couple of years, from the bedroom to the office room, about four foot steps (unless I need to visit clients).

Longest was 97 miles doorstep-to-workplace, almost 200mile round trip (Kendal to Crewe). Each day. I loved the job, loved where I lived. Even the drive home had some attraction (past J23). Going past Morecombe in spring/autumn, the sun would be touching the sea, turning it to a sheet of silver and gold. Just past Burton-in-Kendal, between two overbridges, the M6 rises and on a good day you can see the south-facing hills; hues of greens, greys, purples. And just past Endmoor, the road goes into a wide S-bend, perfectly doable at 50 in a Beemer for that 'ultimate driving machine' moment when the car seemed to just flow round the corners.

Stuck in traffic at J21A southbound was always a PITA. Or J19 northbound. J32 was always "home run"; the first gantry sign that said "The Lakes", and a dozen miles of police-free motorway
There is no question so obviously stupid that it prevents one supposedly intelligent human from asking it of another.

Likewise, there is no human problem that cannot be solved by the correct application of the appropriate quantity of high explosive, the suitable quantity being derived by the Formula P, where P = "plenty"

Currently 25 mile each way, sometimes cycle it but it is all country lanes and the A10 so a pretty easy trip.
I don't care if you hate me, I don't live to fucking please you.

Currently 40 miles each way by car, mix of dual carriageway, motorway and A and B road single carriageways. Around 45 mins each way, assuming I leave home before 0715 and set off home before 1730.Spent nearly 10 years commuting into London when not travelling - not fun, what with First Great Western's incredible incompetence in the early Noughties and the ever-cranking cost. 0654 train up, 1848 train home, getting back to chez moi around 2015-30 most nights. Best commute ever was London-Abu Dhabi-London on a weekly basis.

80 miles round trip from Belfast to ballykinler barracks, bearly any motorway so frequently get stuck behind oaps ( nothing worse then getting stuck behind some massive, german built, fuel injected, two litre job being driven at 40 miles an hour on a single lane country road were you can't get past, if you going to drive that slow atleast get a nissan micra) and tractors. Tonight I will be finishing work at 10pm, not so bad when it's light but during the winter months it can be a little unnerving driving the country road in and out of ballykinler, especially as somebody was charged not so long ago for taking photos of the cars and reg plates of all the cars being driven

Lucky bastard If I take the car it's about 45 minutes (provided none of the bridges are open). Needless to say the bicycle wins 99% of the time.

used to commute from Glasgow to edinburgh which tended to vary between 1 and 2 hours each way. due to the location of my work if i was ever forced to use public transport this ramped up to 3 hours each way. it didnt seem that bad at the time but now that it takes me 15 minutes i really notice the difference and hadnt realised just how completely knackered i was until i stopped doing it.

i'm now pretty sure that this means i'll live 10 years longer than you lot, so get it up you.

For the 10 years I was based in London (80's-90's),I had a 200 mile round trip, the money was very good, the job very interesting, but at the end of 10 years,I decided it wasn't worth my family life, and kicked it into touch.

Took a 75% cut in pay,and have enjoyed life ever since.

I have a mate who is a London Taxi driver, who commutes from Whitstable,in his Hackney Cab,on a nightly basis!

    Depends...

Most days: one flight of stairs to my study.
Quite often: three hour journey to London.
Today: 24 hour journey to the other side of the world.

That one flight of stairs is quite nice really...

150 mile round trip, daily since '99, the journey is not that bad as I do it on the train but I get to spunk £600 a month for the privilege.

Not as bad as some I have seen as there are people on the same train as me who get on a good 50 miles further on the track.

If you are interested it works out as a 12 1/2 hr day
