Re: Good recruitment agencies?
Get in touch with Orion mate, they got me my current job. I actually registered my CV on Monster and one of Orion's Consultants picked it off there and called me up to ask if I would like a job that he thought I could do based on my CV. I went to the interview, pissed it (largely due to my Forces background, I was told) and am now earning a lot more money than my last job and a good deal more than my last Army wage ;)

Re: Good recruitment agencies?
From my experience, in two lots of job hunting, these are rather rubbish. Yes they have loads of jobs, but when you apply you hear nothing. You never even know if the agencies have received the applications, and the agencies rarely if ever respond.

And the old adage is true; nothing beats a personal approach. Research the companies you want to work for, write to them directly. And this you can see is the bolt. The purpose of this
Is to open the breech, as you see. We can slide it
Rapidly backwards and forwards: we call this
Easing the spring. And rapidly backwards and forwards

They call it easing the Spring.
They call it easing the Spring: it is perfectly easy
If you have any strength in your thumb: like the bolt,
And the breech, and the cocking-piece, and the point of balance,
Which in our case we have not got; and the almond-blossom
Silent in all of the gardens and the bees going backwards and forwards,
For today we have naming of parts.

Re: Good recruitment agencies?
Hi,
Working in recruitment i hope i can help. The following is MY OWN OPINION!!(i'm not looking to get sued by any other agengies today)
There are many conflicting answers on this thread although in fact most of them are true. Unless your next career move is going to be hugely specialised, finding your next job is a numbers game! Below i will break down how i would go about finding my next move (again my opinion only).
Step 1
CV CV CV. Until you actually make it to interview stage this is all potential employers wil know of you. If it could be relevant - get it on there. You should tailor your CV for each job you apply for, if you are dealing with an agent they should go through your CV with you and ensure that nothing has been missed off.
Step 2
Get Found! When an agent gets a job role to fill they are usually competing against other agencies, and will waste no time in finding the best candidates quickly! With this in mind it makes sense to make it as easy as possible to get yourself noticed. Put your CV on job boards that are searched constantly by Recruiters all day - everyday!
Reed, JobServe, Totaljobs, Monster & Jobsite are definately a good place start. LinkedIn is also a fantastic networking site that many people get recruited through.
Step 3
Agencies. So many people enlist with 1 agency and sit back and wait. Whilst yes some agencies do have some of the same jobs as another, is it not better to have 3 phone calls about the same job than no calls at all? I would enlist with as many reputable looking agencies as possible. There are many good agencies but if they haven't got anything for you at the time then they haven't got anything for you. Still send them your CV for when they do get a job in that would suit you - again working the numbers angle.
Finally
I would actively look for work myself as Grownup_Rafbrat suggests. As well as people there are many companies that dislike agencies and will not use them. Again it makes sense to cover another base and make sure you are aware of current jobs that are not being offered through agencies.

Re: Good recruitment agencies?
Love them or hate them, look at the figures they are a serious money spinner so people use them. For an applicant you have to learn how to use them to your best advantage, they love competition and beating other agencies so get them competing. That means:
1.Know what you want-be realsitic not head up your rear end.
2. Be marketable, if you are a no hoper don't cry if you don't get interviews.
3. Make a relationship with your consultant.
4. If as a Comms specialist they ask you your short hand speed walk away, they aren't right for you.
5. Help them by being possitive and being involved.
6. Network and be found, don't hide make a name for yourself
As to this comment what utter bollox!
. The first thing you have to understand is that your recruiter will be an estate agent in his next job. They are just as sly and greasy.

Re: Good recruitment agencies?
Apologies - i didn't mean to offend, and was just trying to offer some free help on the current market. I do however stand by the fact 1 single agency couldn't hope to compete with a site like JobServe that has numerous agencies all with different roles constantly searching their database. Perhaps the market has changed somewhat since 1987??
Kind Regards
Ben
