i was A Coy 7th Infantry in McKee from '87 to '88.
2 of our very good FCA Corporals left to join the Irish Guards, and i joined the Royal Green Jackets in '89 because i wanted to serve in Northern Ireland.
i've still got a house in Arbour Hill, and i'm still serving in the British Army - the best decision of my life.

Ah, An Píarsach! Was in it for about two years and did a camp in Kilkenny and one in Dundalk doing guards and border patrols (Jesus, I was 14!). Left then and joined the BA 3 weeks before Bloody Sunday! Served 24yrs though. Another lad joined the Micks and a third went into the RAF. I see from Flickr that Maurice Hayden was still cutting about in Griffith Barracks for years afterwards!
There is always to be seen just a little strip of Green, on the left of the Thin Red Line!
“Our rulers will best promote the improvement of the nation by strictly confining themselves to their own legitimate duties, by leaving capital to find its most lucrative course, commodities their fair price, industry and intelligence their natural reward, idleness and folly their natural punishment, by maintaining peace, by defending property, by diminishing the price of law, and by observing strict economy in every department of the state.â€

Whoops! Ex 11th Field Med Coy and 62 Logs Bn. When I think back on those great days christ we under funded, undertrained and unappreciated but we never complained. The RDF has come on but its still a bit of joke, the NCO corps are fairly decent for the most part but for some reason they commission fecking peacocks what mince about the place looking for salutes cause trouble and generally don't know their arse from their elbow, but because they have a fancy job title in civvy street they are officer material?
