Medal just arrived for TELIC 1. Since I have had one of those replicas from Worstershire Medals mounted into my group for about 9 months, I suppose it will go into a drawer somewhere never to be seen again.

    Re: Op TELIC Medal

Rumour has it that when Ivan surrendered and liberty returned to the IGB, several underground command bunkers were discovered from which the pickled cabbage eaters were going to conduct the largest Party recruiting drive since 1945. In amongst the bits and pieces were, allegedly, crates of campaign medals waiting for the soldiers to pin them on.

Whilst this is almost certainly bollox (ebayski would be flooded with them) its not a bad policy for medal issue.

Worcestershire Medals provide an excellent service, but I wonder how much their trade has benefited in the past 2 years from the official system leaving recipients waiting so long for operational and Jubilee Medals.

Btw, your Telic Medal will surely be engraved with your name etc? So unlike chocolate NATO medals etc, the purchased one on your group will not be an exact equivalent.

Anyone, any news on progress with the transfer to the new Medal Office? That should delay things nicely.

Has anyone been to the medal office?

I have. There is one man who sits on a pedal operated machine that inscribes all the medals. Imagine an old fashioned sewing machine. Hes not the sharpest pencil in the beef sandwich, reminds me of the guy in the wheel chair out of Little Britain.

Anyway, the MoD has promised to install a laser in the office to sort out the problem of back log. You can picture it now.....

You are right of course that my 'real one' has all the guff around the side, but then I suppose I am hoping that none will be inspecting me THAT closely to notice! I suppose in due course (maybe when the next overseas excursion comes along) I will correct the situation.

    Re: Op TELIC Medal

not got my medal for Telic 1 and I was in theatre on Jan 23 2003. Just ran a NCO Cadre for my capbadge, had a JNCO who was on Telic 3 Guess what. He had his medal because his Battalion was on Public Duties. If you saw the Queens Birthday Parde of 2003 The Mick Guards had Telic medals then. Its all a big Joke. Not that I want to pay the extortionate prices to get medals mounted but I would like to have mine. I heard, from my RAWO that there is a pecking order to do with casualties - personally think this is bollocks. Or does B-Liar have to issue them all personally ? - all them phots and in an election year too!

I was told by The medal office they are starting to issue Telic 2 medals in early 2010.

I can't understand the complete randomness of the issue. I checked with my unit today and they haven't a clue when the Telic 1 medals will arrive, forget about the subsequent Telics.

Seems to be based on whether a particular unit is involved in public duties or a media photo opportunity.

The most effective way to get the medals issued is to organise a parade and ask a New Labour MP to make the presentations , invite loads of media and then inform the medal office.

    Job done.

also, I'll bet that all the Telic 1 Journos have been issued theirs

    Re: Op TELIC Medal

Got my Telic one medal last Thursday. I am now at my 2nd unit since Telic. Rang my mate who is still with the Unit that we went with and none of them have got theirs yet. It seems as if the Admin office that did my paperwork got it in before theirs.
Just seems bizarre that I've got mine and they haven't as now most of them have been twice!

I wonder how many more campaigns and medals there will be before the Telic (and Jubilee etc) medal issues are complete? If its one guy with a pedal machine, he's never going to catch up, is he?
