I was REME attached 22 SAS, in the middle of a 4 year posting I was invited to join the SASRA.
The membership card Shortt has shown is similar to the one issued to me a few years later than his date but bears no relationship to the current card which he MUST have been given if he is still a member.
What is on the back of Shortt's membership card ?
edited to clarify when I was invited to join SASRA.

Quite.
Why did they not automatically renew it in his case?

Did they sack him?
Once again I am beginning to smell b******t!
If he was still a member when the ID cards were changed he would have been sent the new type.
Maybe he was given temporary membership for the period he needed to write up his piece for his book ?
The conditions mentioned, in earlier posts, on who can become a member of SASRA were not necessarily those that were in place in 1981.
His claimed Judo qualifications are suspect too. Neither the British Judo Association nor the British Judo Council have any record of Jim Shortt at all, let alone the 4th Dan grade that he claims. Further enquiries are proceeding with the Amateur Judo Association and the Irish Judo Association to see if they have any record of him.
Whoever is following this up might also want to check with the International Budo Federation.

Why?
I still have my membership books from the B.J.A. and can prove what I did with them and the dates I passed what.
As I recall, in the early 1980's, the BJA would require Jimbo to be a published author (On Judo) to qualify for 4th Dan.
Taking the current conversation at face value, couldn't it be construed that you have exposed an embarrasing lapse in security. Given his colourful CV giving this man access to those who may things us lesser mortals do not, could cause compromises.

The IBF is an entirely different organisation from the BJA, that's why!
Just picked up the latest Quest magazine from the resettlement shelf, IBA is advertising their wares via the Security Academy, not a preferred supplier though.
