So if I'm reading the info on jumbo's recollection of Farnes, is that "officially" Farnes isn't listed as being the OC for 21 SAS? Interesting Sandy, that Farnes retired within days of us getting into the shooting match in FI.

That his claims of being a Polish Colonel are right up there with the lala land McCarthy saga?

I wonder what would happen if this link was dropped by the publisher's of Shortt's books? Publisher's really don't like it when their authors make crap up about themselves or the non-fictional subject they have paid money and royalties for.

Would telling the publishers that Shortt is a fraud be a nice thing to do?

    Would that be malicious?
    Or simply advisory?

Your call Portia ... you have better antennae in this area.

    logging off ... Baron Out.

    Re: 'Baron' Castleshort

I was thinking of that author Frey, who made up his entire life story to get a book published as well as a few other stories that involved a less than truthful author.

The thing is with Osprey, is that they encourage a would be author to forward a proposal of the book they'd like to write. I don't think for a moment that Osprey solicited Shortt to write the book rather that he sent off a proposal and they liked the idea. So in this case, would it be worth it to let them know about an author from 30 years ago? It might help them be a bit more discerning when it comes to claims of would be authors, then again they don't really play up the author much so if the subject sells, would they care the author is a flake?
(I wonder if they'd be interested in a book about women in combat roles - oh I can hear Sandy's teeth gnashing already.... however, I could probably write a book about it, and I certainly have way more time in than jumbo ever did.)

Having reached 200 pages, this thread is becoming too unwieldy to edit and to wade through. Consequently, I'm going to lock it and post it as a sticky, like the first LofF thread, and we can crack on in 'Baron Castleshort Part 2'.
