Considering when the book was writen, it was the insperation for a few films before the original ST, Full Metal Jacket springs to mind.
as for Heinlan being a sex obsessed facist, he was in the US Navy in the 1930's. say no more you know what jack is like.
Sgt. Zim. He is far better characterised in the book. In the book he also ends up as Ricco's platoon sgt in his first platoon. This is at the time he is also wearing the CSM hat as well. Only work of fiction I can think of where undermanning was discussed in a similar way to real life.
Crap film, book fun but written by a sex-obsessed fascist.
Makes a good point that if you don't give to society you shouldn't have a say in how it is run.
Seems reasonable to me as a proposition. Cut out all the chavs and wasters voting on maintaining their benefits for doing nowt, and a government shite-scared of alienating them.
Here's an idea for you: If you live off the state, you don't get a vote.

I’ll go with that. I’ve been keen on that idea for years, ever since I read the book in 1967-ish. There were half a dozen copies floating about the Battalion and they were read by just about everyone, to the point where they fell to bits and were held together by sellotape. If you are a soldier the book is worth reading simply for way it examines why we fight, even though the book has an American orientation.
The idea that Heinlein was a fascist is still maintained by the whinging left because the idea of qualified voting effectively cuts them off from their vote base, amongst the witless illiterati and the whining wasters.
If that view makes me a fascist, fine, I can live with that
