Big-up the old dear who was collecting in the car park at the Langham Food Fair in Yorkshire in about May this year. We got the full-on "What I did in the war" so she must have been 80 or 90.

The honk for peace old lady in Bristol is always worth a chat too, she lost her husband in the War and has been a campainer every since, in summer she stands at the cross roads by the hipodrome with a honk for peace sign on and does a bit of poppy collecting in winter

Re: Lack of Poppy Sellers?
Personally I found our local cordinator a pain in the @@se. After volunteering to give up time to stand on the street selling poppies, folks squabbling over pitches or over who was in charge, over zealous control freaks and apparent ignorance of what the whole point of selling poppies really is all about. Please tell me this is UNusual

I wouldn't dare. In that neck of the woods, selling poppy-based products on someone else's turf is just asking to be 'shanked' by a 'bruvva'.

I am a Poppy Person in both London and Ashtead and haven't experienced anything like that, thankfully! It is somewhat off-putting if people involved in charities and so on try to make themselves and their egos more important than the cause.

I've just been asked to appeal for volunteers in the Greater London area, so within the M25 really. If you're outside that ring but want to help the RBL in your area, PM oldbaldy and ask him to give you the contact details for your local county office.
