Re: Lack of Poppy Sellers?
There's a couple of sellers in Andover over the weekend but didn't see anyone selling yesterday morning when I went for a hair cut (singular!)
A dog is for life, not just a Saturday night!
"I have a report" (and it's not a 252!)

Re: Lack of Poppy Sellers?
OK this comes from the Daily Wail.....
A "heartless" store manager refused to allow war veterans to sell Remembrance Day poppies at his shop. WHSmith manager James Matthews told retired RAF commander Bryan Hill, 75, to leave the shop in Clifton, Bristol, because the Poppy Appeal was not officially "adopted" by WHSmith. Mr Hill claimed the manager launched a "personal attack" on him after pointing out poppies had been sold in the same store for almost 15 years

Re: Lack of Poppy Sellers?
In the town where I live, there are plenty of proud old vets standing in the town with their poppy tins.
In some parts of the town, the lively young student-types from some "save a skinny black kid" charity or other steal away their attention.
In other parts, they're simply ignored by like beggars.
It is good to see that the poppy appeals have gotten the hang of technology this year though.

Re: Lack of Poppy Sellers?
Have been out Mon and Tues night, am out again tonight, tomorrow night and Sat afternoon at our local Tesco's, most people look a bit shocked when they see a 33 year old with medals selling poppies, but as the Area Organiser said to me on Tues night when we were selling them, "You don't half get some cracking crumpet talking to you", randy old goat!!!!

Re: Lack of Poppy Sellers?
Firstly it yo should ask first before you sell Poppies in any ones shop, I was selling them yesterday in Sainsbury, but we had got a letter from their HQ agreeing to this also we had to sign in and out and comply with their code of conduct, which is only fair.
Also it surprising that many people that are complaining about the lack of collectors never bother to collect them self's.

If you want to collect you need to join your local legion first, and put yourself forward for collection duties.
We all need to join our local legions if they are to survive into the future, it's only the very old and bold there now, gleaming guys and girls but it's up to us to keep the Legion clubs open.

Re: Lack of Poppy Sellers?
I may well have missed someone else mentioning it, but I've just seen Facebook poppies on the RBL website - an excellent way to raise awareness in this pooter age!

Re: Lack of Poppy Sellers?
I was in Bridlington last weekend, by choice believe it or not, couldnt find any poppy sellers but the BNP were handing out leaflets.
Strange world indeed. One day you'll be waiting there, no empty bench in Soho Square
And we'll dance around like we don't care
And I'll be much too old to cry
And you'll kiss me quick in case I die before my birthday

Re: Lack of Poppy Sellers?
Was talking to an old school mate last weekend who is now in the Met Police, he was telling me that even the Police Stations haven't usually got poppies for sale on their counters this year and although they are allowed to wear a poppy on their uniform they are not encouraged to.
There were plenty of seller around Milton Keynes and Bletchley last week though, veterans, Army Cadets and Air Cadets. They may be little chav gits for most of the year but full honours to them at this time.
Slightly off-topic but on same subject, I was saddened to see a sign in a local village today, advertising their annual craft fair this Sunday between 1030 and 1430. No mention at all on it about anything else that may be happening that day at around 11ish. Villages are normally the last bastion of traditions like Rememberence Day.Death may be certain, but comms aren't.

Re: Lack of Poppy Sellers?
I was out doing the poppies yesterday and today, have to say how good it is to see all kinds of people getting them.
Had lots of kiddywinkles come running up with pounds to put in the pot and the mums saying "this is the forth one this week" ha ha.
Also the old chappy i was with today was drumming up business by telling all the fellas "if you put an extra 50p in the pot this young blonde piece will even pin it on for you" ha ha Bloomin worked too!
All i can say really is if you cant see the poppies being sold its because of a lack of sellers, get yer arrse into gear and offer to help next year. For the record some of our sellers arnt RBL members so you technically dont have to join however it is such a good cause and without members the branches will close so worth the few quid to join!
You can offer to do as little or as much as you like, an hour here or there, whatever you can do. Even if you cant do the actual selling then you could maybe help with getting boxes to your local schools, pubs etc or help counting it all up afterwards. They are so grateful for any assistance especially from the younger generation.
