    Re: Lack of Poppy Sellers?

One thing which has baffled me this weekend. All the sellers are either RAF/RN cadet force or Legion. No reservists or regulars with zero visibilty of the Army.

I'm talking about the Brighton/Worthing area.

In London there have been people in 95s with NI daysacks on the tube network almost every day this week, no idea who they were cos I couldn't get close enough. But they weren't cadets.

In town today there were three lads, all very young and with visible disabilities. But they stood there, (some supported) with their medals on show and they looked really proud. So they should be, good on you lads.

    Re: Lack of Poppy Sellers?

I was out with my OH and son selling Poppies in Salisbury. One young guy (20ish) walked up and stuffed a tenner in the pot, and whispered 'Thanks'. Didn't even want a poppy... Another old boy gave me a small bag of change. "That's my small change from the last two weeks" he said.

It seem now that it's the old and the young who are wearing poppies. The middle aged don't seem to bother so much.

Finished late this afternoon with a collecting tin full almost to the brim.

Nah I think not, I said "people in 95s with NI daysacks" and not "longhaired guys in North Face puffa jackets with Camelbaks and a really good book deal"..

Never seen a stick on poppy in Edinburgh . All of them seem to be plastic stalks which are a bugger to wear since I use a piece of sellotape to stick it on to my jacket which lasts for a about 2 hours before it falls off
Not to be confused with Spenny from Edinburgh

Now is the time boys and girls, to let your local Poppy Organiser known you are available for next year. It gives them lots of time to work out the rosters for each of their "stations" and saves them having to root around for help at the last minute. It also gives you the feeling that, come what may (and it doesn't look good just now), you will be in there doing something for our service people past and present. Get some friends - not necessarily with service connections - to stand with you as you carry out this very rewarding task.

This poppy thing seems to be much bigger this year than I am used to seing. On my way too work today there seemed to be poppy sellers all over the shop in Windsor and the amount of people wearing them was phenomenal.

The Public have noticed what's happening.

This isn't an old WW1/WW2 thing any more.

Bloody big price to pay for the publicity, though :(
