    New prison "uncomfortable"

Small piece in yesterday's Herald, sorry I can't find a link to an online version.

Glenochil's £20m Harviestoun Hall opened in 2005 to replace three buildings. But inspectors said today soaring tempratures inside the 244-cell complex made conditions "unbearable".

I make that £82K per inmate or approximately the build cost of a three bedroom bungalow. How does that compare with the currrent refurbishment program?

"Budgeted costs of food have not changed in more than a decade, Dr McLellan said, and remain at £1.57 per person per day, which was set in 1996. .... Fruit and vegetables are provided but the availablity is far short of the recommended five portions per day."

Something for you to mull over in the canteen.
Current firearms legislation is preventing a great many guilty parties from retiring to their study and doing the decent thing.

I bought a military watch. It didn't tell me the time, it told me to get my hair cut.

Your all very nasty people. You don't seem to understand it NOT THEIR FAULT. Its SOCIETY.

WTF am I talking about? They would get fruit and veg OK - rammed up their arrses! Fcuk me they have even named the place after a very well respected local brewery in Dollar (Harviestoun). The feckers will be having Real Ale nights next.

Uncomfortable is Penal Servitude, not sitting about scratching their bell ends.

Prisons with a better standard of living than most pads at home, let alone when we are on tour and the shitty places we live in.

bull ocks to this why serve my country when i can serve time and be better off. free sky / free heating / free pool tables / free extra education on my legal rights /over crowding so you only serve half your time as well.

    what a life

i joined up to protect these rights for them.

simple answer shoot them all -

if its your second time inside then you have had your second chance - a round has got to be cheaper and pretty soon people will get to know its not worth it and the crime rate will go down.

There's no pleasing some people. You give them south facing cells and they still complain.

My point was to compare the sums that the chiefs of the prison service judge appropriate for housing and feeding an inmate against those the the chiefs of the MOD judge appropriate for service personnel.

don't forget, when you get out you'd be top of the council housing list in whichever area you prefer, have social services "resettle" you and help you get all the benefits you are "entitled" to ...

Aren't old prisons uncomfortable as well?

    It's just standards being maintained.
