Quote - "Bush and Blair are no different to Churchill or Bethmann Holweg. They are warrior leaders, who, having failed to deal with the crises their economies are suffering, decide to make war."
Nearly fell of my chair - Bush/Blair as warrior leaders? No - Churchill was thrust into leadership, and WW2 wasnt about resources. Bush/Blair are opportunist scavengers and diplomatically inept, but yes I agree this is a battle for resourcers AND a battle of ideology. The battle for the worlds resources has been going on for ages, the British normally deal with things in a cooler, restrained and diplomatic manner, but Blair has put legacy building and his twisted view of our 'special relationship' in front of diplomacy and restraint...
Tony Blair a warrior leader? Oh please! I am still trying to track down that halfwitted Labour politician who had the audacity to compare Bliar to Churchill so I can gut him with a rusty spoon . . . don't ask to be added to the list! . . . Urgh! Even the thought makes me feel horrible and corrupt. Going off to stand under a very strong magnet now. . . and breath out.
I was out for the first round of the Gulf but came within an ace of trying to get back, a new foreign missus and infant held me back.
But I would have had problems getting on the plane for these ones. Because it was extremely clear that it was for the greater glory of Blair and his friends power and pockets, not for good sound reasons of Queen and Country. With every pronouncement he makes it clear that he has no leadership qualities and is not worthy of respect. He has converted his lord and master from POTUS to POTUSATUK (and the UK), and watching him and Bush together with the united flags I find that for the first time I am ASHAMED of a PM, not simply in disagreement.
If you gave the old option of lets not have a war but put the presidents in an arena with a club and winner takes all then what of our last few PMs?
I notice that of the last PMs since Wilson, Heath and Callaghan both had medals from WW2, so they have put up. Maggie you feel would have been into the arena like a shot and left us feeling sorry for Galtieri. John Major would maybe not have done very well but would have given it a go at least, ( like the england cricket team he loves).
But TB would have employed every excuse under the sun and finally sent Prescott or Cherie to do the job.
He shows no reason why we should follow him especially while he flogs out on uneeded missiles to make his yank friends richer while soldier's houses fall down. Then he has the gall to say what he says.
A most tiresome fellow to say the least. (that's a cunt to you lot)
PEACE THROUGH FIRE SUPERIORITY? - JUST GIVE ME A BIG AXE!
Blair and Bush Warrior leaders? FFS . However, there is a word that starts with w and ends in r, that does describe them
Sorry, I'm at a loss to know which word you mean. Worrier? Whistler? Warrener? Webster? Wrangler? Wibbler? Wobbler? ooooh hang on a minute . . . you mean WANKER don't you?
The opiate of the masses is that which is sold under the illusory brand 'Freedom & Democracy'. It is sold by an invisible company but is administered directly to the brain by 'Government' using a 'Media' syringe.
May I just say at this juncture, even though I may be repeating myself, I feel that some of the energy of the original posts has been lost, so here goes:
Im with Giblets!! In fact its so good I'll quote him twice!!

Oh excuse me Ratcatcher, Correlli Barnett is outside and he wants a word with you about that statement. Something about "not fecking spending years writing The Audit of War, fecking bollux et cetera".
As far as I am aware he can finish playing his mandolin...
However, I beg to differ - from our point of view, our initial involvement in WW2, and Churchill's subsequent rise to power was primarily about ideology, and saving our bacon, not the acquisition of resources or 'lebensraum'..... Barnett may have a point to make about socio-economic influences in the post war period, but I am merely referring to causes.
I do appreciate the importance of resources in the bigger picture of war - however Churchill didnt say 'Oil to be had and toadying to be done - thats the war for me...". No, he left that to some cvnt called Tony....
SO WHO THE FCUK IS SVEN????
