Mr Angry - sorry, missed your post.
I have been inside the Medical Centre, hence my observation about the piece of modern "art "in the middle - a new Labour era wet dream. I've wasted as much time there as anyone else, whilst disinterested reception staff try to ignore anyone in front of them, been amused as the freaks of Aldershot attend the civie medical practices. At one stage I even managed to get through to the Med Centre on the phone!
Surely it's not a matter of how long you were there, suffice to say that I had an Assignment Order with Aldershot written on it.
Some parts are fine, I prefer the older Victorian buildings, rather than the screaming kitsch of the 1970s shopping precinct.
I do understand the Allenby-Connaught plans, I was just thinking what a shame that the extra space has been sold off for legoland type Barrett homes, but then the strategy during the new labour regime was to starve “conservative” electorates and transplant facilities into labour electorates whatever the cost and no matter how illogical.
Will it work, as I said maybe, but I can’t see the CMH precinct becoming a meca for the professional commuter class. I am a pessimist, and I think in ten years it will become just another failed urban re-development like the old Queens depot in Guildford that is the bane of the locals. Still, the dealers will have a pleasant backdrop whilst knocking out their skunk.
Personally, I think Aldershot deserves better and it would be brilliant to see another A class Bde there and 16X would be my preference, but I think those days are past.

It is correct that Aldershot is a fucking dump. However, the best times of my life - Airborne.

I have not not been to the shot for a few years, last time I was there the town centre was dead, seems everyone shops at the tesco. Seems so very different from the mid 90s, when the town was buzzing on a saturday with shoppers (especially on market day) and the pubs were full, both civies and squaddies. I know its been a long time since 5AB was dispanded, but if you speak to any blokes that served in the shot, (airborne types) they all seem to have happy memories of it.

Just remembered, does that mad bloke still drive around in an open top miliary landrover? Probably in his 50s and has a big tache? Always shouted when he drove passed a parade, or bibbed his horn. Anyone know who he was?!
