Joint Politic's - The way ahead ?
Balls Tells Cable: Let's Fix Economy Together
Ok its a open letter story, but is dropping party bollox the better way of doing business, there is a coalition currently in place to stop a hung-parliament and there is retraints in place to what one party can do, but what is wrong with using other MP's/parties to do certain ministerial jobs at the best of abilities, even so they have to report to No 10 regardless.

Because an adversarial parliamentary system means that people don't get complacent, have to respond to public opinion and generally up their game?

That may be the theory but it doesn't seem to be working out that way in practice. What we have is a competition to appear considerate to the tiny fraction of the electorate that hasn't already made its mind up who to vote for based on factors other than policy.
Our 'competing' parties are already complacent about their core voters and can afford to ignore them in favour of these key swing voters. It beggars belief but we've somehow managed to contrive a system of universal suffrage where some votes count for more than others. We need people who look to the stars, holding the nation and the world in their hearts but at the same time we need down-to-earth people who can do serious and trying work.
In a definite sense, a country's power and prestige isn't only a reflection of its economic power but also a reflection of its people's quality and morality. Moreover, I think the latter is actually more important in the long-term.
