Discuss Julian Assange Gets Asylum in The Intelligence Cell on The Army Rumour Service; Given the UK's recent record in extraditing people to the US, wouldn't you have thought that if the US really wanted to extradite him, it would have been far easier for them to extradite him ...

Given the UK's recent record in extraditing people to the US, wouldn't you have thought that if the US really wanted to extradite him, it would have been far easier for them to extradite him directly from the UK rather then going through a third country such as Sweden?

    Just a thought.

It did occur to me that if the US wanted him out of the way, it would be quicker, cheaper, and less noticeable to shoot him and leg it. The current 'plan' of hoying him off to Sweden, to face rape charges from potentially dodgy accusers, is to be honest rather more complicated than necessary. All his fans who claim this is a CIA plot to get him to Americaland to torture, and kill him overlook this detail; if they could organise this cockup without their fingerprints being found all over the scheme, couldn't they just as easily 'disappeared' him?

I believe the feminists state 'All men are rapists' it is up to this hunted seeker of truth and money to prove them wrong in a Swedish court of law, and if necessary, die for his beliefs.

    Yes agree.
However my comment was regarding how his actions become classed as rape. I thought rape was carnal knowledge without consent (or somesuch). Presumably there was insufficient evidence to support a charge of rape?

Fair point they seem to be terming it as a sexual assault rather than rape.

BTB I hope the £250,000 bail has been handed over. I expect this clown and his circus has cost us a lot more than that but every little helps.

Currently waiting outside the Embassy - Sky, BBC and ITN all here. Apart from the ambassador turning up its very quiet. Suddenly nothing happened. He's supposed to make announcement tomorrow but we've got no idea how he'll do it. There's a very small balcony but otherwise he'll have to come outside...and get knicked.

Go and get plastered in the pub. Let the AP/Reuters chappies stand about for hours while nowt is happening as usual. You can wait for the buzz on the Blackberry if the News Wires come up with anything.

I concur that The Chosen One is likely to win unless he is caught in bed with a live boy or dead girl. I disagree a bit as to "most ineffectual president in my lifetime" unless you were born after Jimmy Carter left office.

Obama is spending millions of campaign money on ads. He is also spending billions of taxpayer money on programs to please big labor. The media and Hollywood are entirely on his side. Obama talks about being with the working people but raises millions for the campaign at dinners costing $25,000 or $40,000 per person. He bashes Romney for his work at Bain Capital but accepts big donations from members of Bain.

All of Obama's ads I have seen are attacks of Romney, not ads praising his accomplishments (I can understand why). I loved watching the Olympics but my enjoyment was marred by seeing Obama's attack ads every 10-15 minutes. Obama talks about how Romney might cut Medicare funds but Obama transferred $700mil out of the Medicare Trust fund to other budget items and the media is ready to declare his apotheosis.
