I for one believe that certain standards should apply and if the Eu elected reps get attendance payments they should be there for a substantial working day to get them, in fact they shouldnt get any salary unless are able to attend 75% of all planned business in the parliament buildings, they then shouldnt get expenses but warrants for travel and put up in travelodge style accom for which they pay (not reimburseable) and if they fail to attend they dont get paid. Very true and thats just the elected MEP's, think of the 27 UNELECTED Commissioners like the gargoylesque Ashton etc, the BASIC salary is c 245,000 euro's per annum up to 282,000 euro's per annum in Ashtons case.
