Get 'orf my land - handing stuff back nicked along while ago

Suspect we'll be handing England back to the Welsh ... not to mention the Falklands

US should return stolen land to Indian tribes, says United Nations | World news | guardian.co.uk

A United Nations investigator probing discrimination against Native Americans has called on the US government to return some of the land stolen from Indian tribes as a step toward combatting continuing and systemic racial discrimination.
"As we moved slowly through the outskirts of the town we passed row after row of little grey slum houses running at right angles to the embankment. At the back of one of the houses a young woman was kneeling on the stones, poking a stick up the leaden waste-pipe which ran from the sink inside and which I suppose was blocked. I had time to see everything about her - her sacking apron, her clumsy clogs, her arms reddened by the cold. She looked up as the train passed, and I was almost near enough to catch her eye." So what about the land stolen from the Indians by the British when we owned America?
Warning, this post contains some flash photography.

You can keep most of it, it's fully of chav scum.

Can't even drain off those villages flooded to create reservoirs. And that was hardly ancient history.

We asked some very nice American chaps, who just happened to be passing, if they would mind handing back the keys and turning off the lights as matron had just made tea!

Perhaps this UN apparatchik should venture down to S. America, Argentina in particular, & demand that the decendents of the Spanish Conquistadors who rocked up in the 16th/17th Centuries & murdered/enslaved/plundered the native peoples, be forced to hand back the land to the indiginous peoples! It would make a nice change from all the nauseous crap they keep spouting in the UN about the "malvinas", better & more correctly known as the Falkland Islands, which just happened to be UNINHABITED until various, mainly British Sailors & whalers used them as a base in the late 18th C.

I suspect that the U.S will do what powerful nations usually do when asked to relinquish anything of value.

It seems to be that what he's asking them to do is honour the treaties they voluntarily entered into in the late 19th Century.

Your suspicion applies equally to that, of course.

We need people who look to the stars, holding the nation and the world in their hearts but at the same time we need down-to-earth people who can do serious and trying work.

In a definite sense, a country's power and prestige isn't only a reflection of its economic power but also a reflection of its people's quality and morality. Moreover, I think the latter is actually more important in the long-term.

I can see the rent on the UN building going up again, when the Yanks last wanted them chucked out I fully expected them to move to Canada, the only nation soft enough to think it would be an honour!
