In case you havnt noticed, changes are afoot in the Armed Forces, many have recently been made redundant, just in time for the olympic surge tasks. Many more will be resigning - just you wait and see! Also our pay has been frozen and our pensions are being mucked about with.

I have no idea what planet you are on but dont expect sympathy for Police inability to strike from the Army who also cant strike and are suffering swinging cuts but dont dribble on about it.

I actually agree with both the original statement that Police can resign if they dont like it and your modified version changing it to Army. Wherever you are, if you dont like the terms of your employment, you are welcome to try to find better - and good luck to you.
Agree - as I did when I left the Army and as I am doing now. I also see the damage that is being done from a security perspective too, which actually worries me a lot more than being priced out of a pension.....

Overworked and understaffed but very good regardless.

Certainly not as I was expecting following the numerous 'articles' I had read in the mail.......
I don't doubt it, my wife was well looked after when she had to spend a few days in for a minor op too. I believe the problem is more acute in elderly wards (if such things still exist), or more particularly with elderly patients.

Also, ready to be corrected if necessary, but didn't nurses do quite well under the previous government in pay terms?

I'd like to see a comparison of police versus army pay if there is such a thing.
A top rate PC in the Met, earns about the same as a WO1 in the army.
About 45k. But can earn it for a lot longer.

I don't think it's as much as that to be honest. As a county mounty top rate for me would have been about £32k so I don't believe that London weighting amounts to over 13k (probably no more than 3-5k).

Interesting. What about Nationally? And how long does it take to reach 'top rate'. I assume he will get subsidised housing (particularly being in the 'MET') in line with a W01 (or any other married rank come to think of it)? What about the W01 who goes beyond his 22 years (VENG etc.)?

Just curious as to the comparability?

I think you'll find that it's not the Nurses fault.
You will typically have two Staff Nurses looking after around fourteen patients in an older ward.
The same number of kids will have seven or eight Nurses.
The Nurses don't actually make the decisions on this.

Pay- my Mrs is a senior Staff Nurse and she's on around £21,500 PA.

I do understand that negotiations with HM Govt have ended with a big brick wall for you and I am further surprised that it is a Tory Govt that is inflicting this upon you.

Budgetary considerations aside, I think Cameron et al are playing a dangerous game with our Police and I am sure that more funding could have been gained by sensible economies elsewhere, Child Benefit for instance.

The big one is; If you do go on strike, you do realise that this will probably mean the end of you and your colleagues as serving Police Officers and will in all probability end in charges being laid against a fair proportion.

Plus, if say, a riot of any type kicks off during a Police strike, the Government and the Public will never forgive and will want your heads on sticks.

Police don't strike, it's the law.

    Same as for squaddies.

Very true, but how often has the 'Law' been changed to suit this current shower of shite?

My take is that any civillian who is paid a salary to work, in whatever profession, should have certain employment rights, and the right to strike after a vote, in response to percieved injustice and unfairness, should be one of them......apart from HM Forces who are paid the x factor, and their only response is to vote with their feet.
