Putting to bed the notion that all blacks are mad Muslims you mean? - the only and worthwhile values of multiculturalism (note, -cult-) and diversity could be that there's all sorts doing all sorts, and not all of it extremist. Through the round window there are , and known to a few of us probably, young and hungry types in or out of university, with the values of hard work and ethics in line with family mantra, outrage, ranting mad Mullahs and clockwork nutters, which sometimes become clockwork bombers.

I've lived with the minority in question, "shared houses for professionals" , in Estate Agent BS. Agreed on some of the reasonable input here but not reaching for the wide brush. It's an education to see what's out there sometimes, and just why some people might be angry, hardworking graduates or in Uni. NEETs even. Their parents, communal learning, friends, winder-uppers and News, all fanning the flames of fertile young minds. What we know and think - we can't put here, and that's the rub.

The blacks and Islam thing is quite big in the states with the right, it's mostly about tying one well ingrained phobia into another too make it more popular. The reality is a fairly small phenomenon, black evangelicals vastly outnumber black Muslims and are often far more politically radical, they damn near got their forty acres and a mule back in the 60s.

I wonder: did the conversion of Cassius Clay in the '60s have any long-term effect on US blacks of making Islam an attractive alternative to Christianity?

You'll be getting those black people a bad name you know. No doubt the religion we're talking about could be described as a bit pushy, going by the last thousand years. So while some are on a mission of conversion and dominance, even the odd bit of vile murder: the old dears down the Methodist will be making them cakes and pouring tea. Personally I don't believe it's always religion that winds nutters up to carry out atrocities. It could just be haters and bigots in reverse. Nutjobs from the off, who found an outlet and excuse. But, some have gotten themselves a bit of a name for themselves, in the world. That's not prejudice, that's history, as recorded. Course, this is all just supposition, I don't really believe any of it meself, officer.

the stunts he pulled whilst touting his conversion particularly his anti white sentiments should have been enough to deter most,.. that tv interview where we went on about gentiles.

I suppose you could equally argue that his prestige and those very stunts would have caused some disenchanted blacks to consider following their hero down this new path. I asked the question because I don't recall ever seeing/hearing anything about his influence in this respect; to this day, he's a sporting idol and easily the world’s most famous black Muslim, but he doesn't seem to have pushed the religious line very much, at least in recent years. The 2001 attacks may have kept his head down; or perhaps the whole thing was always more 'political' than religious with him.

In US Prisons that very true. Rikers Island Jail serves Bologna sandwiches, if your Muslim you get Turkey/Chicken. Same for dinners the Halal line is much better quality so conversions for better chow are commonplace.
In my National Guard unit we would get bag lunches on sundays. they were usually Bologna or Ham, with maybe 5 Turkey for 139 men. On Sundays suddenly we had Muslims out the ass who ate pepperoni pizza saturday night but swore to the First Sergeant they didnt eat Devil meat on sundays. No one cared except the only Muslim Soldier was constantly fucked out of a meal until the NCO's took over handing it out. After that you got a snadwich if you could explain what the 5 pillars were. oh the joy of watching the Puerto Ricans suddenly mute
