That was back in 1979, I bought a house on my own responsability 6 yeras later because the writing was on the wall. The pension I receive (after 15 years) is not really enough to live on but I certainly did not miss the Army whatever the benefits may have been. It was a period in my life, my path in Civvy street is now another time in my life and that is it. Anybody who thinks that joining up and staying in the Army for the benefits they will receive afterwards is living in cuckooland.
You see! This is why birds and CID don't mix.
You give a bloke a gun and he thinks its a dream come true
You give a girl one and she knows it doesn't go with a dress.

Some might say so, but a thumping great options redundancy deal helped no end. LOL

I think the apprehension about joining is not dissimilar to the apprehension I felt when leaving... if that makes sense.
I took a resettlement course in HGV, left the regiment, joined a driving agency and within two weeks wrote off a car and demolished a wall while doing a 3 point turn. Result! Career change within a fortnight!!!
My attitude was and still is, I’ll shovel shit if it pays the bills and so I banged the door down of a few builders = worked on the hod for a while, I’ve done a few thing since but I’ve never been out of work. It’s taken a long time but I’m now starting to bear the fruits of my graft with my own business.
I did think about re-joining at one point through boredom but options for change (90s) put pay to that.

Ah, but years of "acquiring" spare kit and looking after "lost" items came in very handy in a couple of jobs.

Proudly not giving a fuck about the 2012 Olympics...

In the career of glory one gains many things; the gout and medals, a pension and rheumatism....all of these fatigues experienced in your youth, you pay for when you grow old. Because one has suffered in years gone by, it is necessary to suffer more, which does not seem exactly fair.

Narrow minded is not the phrase I have seen broader pins than the minds of those I work with.
I don't care if you hate me, I don't live to fucking please you.

You're lucky mate. All my relatives are tight-fisted bastards.
