I have lived in the Republic of Ireland for several years in the late 1990s, though raised as a Lutheran in Germany (now atheist), I´m in no way connected to any of the Northern Irish Protestant groups. I´ve got a Roman-Catholic daughter out of my first marriage and have a Roman-Catholic girlfriend living in Dublin (but not Irish).
First, support for the PIRA and the other paramilitary groups in the Republic is much lower than you imagine. You can see this e.g. from the election results of Sinn Fein.
Especially since Omagh, even many Irish from traditionaly anti-British families hate these groups (a good friend, who´s father was interned by Eamon de Valera during WW2 and who´s family has for generations supported the old IRA even demanded the reintroduction of judical hanging for the perpetrators).
Secondly, you´ll know very fast who the real paramilitaries are, for me they rather reminded me of mafia gangsters (what the groups in my opinion turned to, but I´ll say the same about the protestant paramilitaries), quite but hard, they wouldn´t talk about the organisation, much less brag about it.
I´ve also met braggards in pubs, but you can be sure that they are PIRA Walts, and they quickly shut up if a real PIRA man would come in, less they´ll be dragged out to the back and given at least a vicious beating.

My site, as far as I know, is not broadcast in the pub.
It's really a linksite to other sites so that Republicans or socialists (even kid on ones) can go to other sites and ignore my pish.
I have a journal on it. I don't give it as much attention as sometimes I'd like. That's where you'll find out a lot more about me. If you'd care to look, you'll find that I'm all for the GFA and the IRA decommissioning.

Wearing their Celtic shirts and green/white/gold scarves they stroll mightly into a pub, a pub where they 'belong'. They get their drinks and take their seats for what should be orgasmic, an Old Firm game in a Ballymurphy pub. The match starts, half time comes. One of the 6 Scottish Irish Republicans goes to the gents, "alright pal, enjoying the game?" other patron "don't fùcking speak to me ya Brit bâstard". Scottish Irish Republican returns to his mates in shock... "i just got called a Brit", "By who, knock his cùnt in"...... "by me, you Brit bastards" - over walks a 'real' Irish Republican... and so do his mates. "You 6 Brits have got 30 seconds to get out...", 6 Scottish Irish Republicans are in shock... they are die hard Celtic fans, they know all the words to the Soldier Song and can say "Our time will come" in Gaelic.... "We aren't British"... "Aye you are, get out"......
