To quote Mark from Peep Show when he was asked that question:

"I spent five happy years in the scouts and never once - alright, Layton was a bit of a paedo, but not in a bad way. Just boosting you over the climbing wall, making you run around the camp in your pants... it was old-style paedoing. Before it got such a bad name."

Hate to say it but all Youth organisations have a problem with the kiddy fiddler image, but you get the same problems in nursing, teaching and social work.

As somebody posted earlier it's how the organisation treats it afterwards that defines it.

The Scout Movement has had a process in place to deal with any & all allegations of abuse or even impropriotory (can't spell it). May not be perfect but it has worked pretty well. The CRB check system only works if somebody is on a register somewhere.

And before anybody jumps on me I am a Scout leader and have been for 10yrs

It takes a kid 10 years to pluck up the courage to speak out against the kiddie fiddlers. He should be expecting a knock on the door any time soon...

Re: Are all scout masters kiddy fiddlers?

I don't know about kiddy fiddlers, but they are all certainly sexual deviants.

I was a beaver, cub & scout in a small village scout group. Most of the leaders were parents of kids somehow involved with the group at one level or another.

One leader used to love sunbathing topless. Great for us 14 year old scouts. Not so great for her 14 year old son who I shall call John, who was also a scout and our mate.

4 couples, with children in the scout group and at at least 7 (of 8 ) of those adults being scout leaders were involved in extra-marrital affairs with each other. It was a scandal that rocked the village as it was like playing musical wives, they all just changed around, and continued as scout leaders, with their children left in the group.

I remember one scout camp on the Isle of Wight before it had all become apparent. John was pissed off as we'd been perving on his topless mum, and as we walked past one of the male leaders tents someone innocently asked "John, Why are your mums shoes and towel outside Nick's tent?"

Re: Are all scout masters kiddy fiddlers?

Heterosexual adult-on-adult action, whilst far more interesting, is not the purpose of this thread!*

*The purpose of this thread is in fact to illustrate that the Catholic church is not "institutionally paedophile" and being a priest does not indicate a life-time supply of Werthers Originals in a back room of the presbytery. Moreover any organisation focussed on children will attract those whose focus is on children but not in the good way. However I think we all knew that and if testimony like blonde guy's can also be expressed, then we can have some fun with this one.

Re: Are all scout masters kiddy fiddlers?

What always made me laugh, was when I was a "venture" scout (i.e. 17/1 all the scout leaders and older scouts would go to our local pub for a meal with their other halves, and then a booze up.

Imagine the scene....All the elder scouts sat around drinking with the leaders. Many of the elder scouts being in the presence of both Mummy & Daddy. Except John's Mum was with Nick, Adam's Daddy, and Adam's Mummy was with Pat's Daddy and in fact John's Daddy was with Pat's Mummy etc. Truly confusing to a young man, positively incestuous. And whats worse is the "new" couples would actively socialise with each other outside of scouts. Very, very odd, proper keys in the bowl kind of stuff.

I've also just had a flashback to a camp where John's Mum and Nick had a tiny one man tent to share. Thinking we'd all gone to bed, they decided to strip off outside their tent before climbing in to "sleep". Obviously we were all watching subtly, as they got fully starkers, and the excitement was too much and they barely made it into their tent.
