You almost got there, time for another resit...
Current firearms legislation is preventing a great many guilty parties from retiring to their study and doing the decent thing.

I can see it now, in a decade ARRSE will be full of young thrusters who will be complaining about all the old farts who go on about HERRICK, lurk in the office, "enable" stuff and how it's got fuck all to do with what's going on now.

I would however be interested to read through an old A-Level paper for geography and see how I got on.

So what's stopping you from using a spell checker when you post on here?

Hint; my own spelling is abysmal.

    Hi,
I have to say from what I see on a daily basis the education system is getting worse.

There is a maths teacher at my old school who is Chinese, I don't have any problem with foreign teachers, but her English is extremely poor. How are students suppose to learn from this??

Further more from my experience many teachers are lazy. They often put little planning into a lesson and everything is done last minute. Lots of teachers just rely on computer suites and tell all the students to logon to bbc bitesize or something like that for the rest of the lesson and the teacher sits on there laptop looking at facebook. There are a few students who are good at self-teaching and teachers are there to teach and not just let the computers do it for them.

Lots of inspections on the schools often don't show these failings. The school will get a couple of weeks advanced warning and they prepare everything so it looks perfect. All the troublesome kids are sent away on a trip. The premises is thoroughly cleaned. All the teachers are given examples of perfect lessons plan which they copy. This lasts for the couple of days of inspection period and is then dropped immediately.

The senior managers of the school only aim to hit exam related targets and the welfare of the students is often forgotten. If something is not in an exam a student is taking they will not be taught it.

Money is always spent on things which will make the school look `good` rather than what it actually needs.

    Its all rather depressing.
Ooh, got to take issue with that one... I watched my other half start her working day at 05.30 and finish at 22.00 because there was no coherent scheme of work (ie. no lesson plans), very poor resources (see my last about schools paying for resits which then eat into capital budgets) and a very, shall we say, hands-off attitude from the head downwards. That's a 16-16.5-hour day, plus one weekend day out of two. And the salaries ain't stellar, in many cases - not for the time put in.

It got to the point when one Friday morning she woke up in tears with the stress. We had one of 'those' conversations: "If you walk away, fine. I'll support you. But this can't go on."

She quit that day and we had the first weekend in months in which I could remember her smiling.

The strain on many teachers is incredible - I shared many of the preconceptions before she and I met. The fallout rate is incredible, and it's not because they're all workshy b*st*rds. And it's not just the newbies, either: my other half had a colleague, who'd been in teaching 18 years and was very competent, who ended up signed off with nervous exhaustion. A friend of mine is a 15-year maths teacher and tells me there's no way he would go into it now and be able to last without the experience of the system he has.

Edict after edict and target after target is wrecking the ability to teach. 'Proving' that education is working is making damn sure that it doesn't.

Yes, there are some bad eggs. As in any trade or workplace. But please don't blame all of the teachers. My other half went into it with altruistic intent and really, really wanted it to work as a career. Right now she works in a call centre. That's a graduate with a teaching qualification and a very well-developed work ethic working as a phone monkey (her description, not mine).

And that, ladies and gents, is a crying f*cking waste.

Edited once because I can't add up.
