Re: Jimmy Carr Mocks Limbless Soldiers On Stage.

Carr has appeared on TV and made a public apology (he is already head-and-shoulders above Jacqui and the rest of her expense fiddling ilk) he has also promised to do a gig with all proceeds going to H4H. That speaks volumes for the man, how many comedians would have just made an apology and left it at that?
Because of Carr there are a lot more people out there that realise that soldiers are coming back with bits missing and H4H is going to benefit. Not that bad a bloke if you ask me.

Re: Jimmy Carr Mocks Limbless Soldiers On Stage.

Arriving late on this thread and have not had time (nor inclination to be honest) to read all the posts.

Carr is not one of my favourite comedians certainly. However, I think the joke might have "worked" amongst a Service audience. We do have a fairly warped sense of humour at times and as such can laugh at ourselves. Taking the piss out of us face to face is one thing but doing so outside the "family" is another.

    Fair enough.

The slightly hysterical and disproportionate reaction from some quarters shows what a humourless and precious bunch we're becoming as a nation.

It's interesting to note that previous wars, (and recessions), have been very fertile times for rich veins of comedy and comedians. That's not the case today. Perhaps because writers and comedians are scared of being blacklisted by the television companies, with their own Highgate Luvvie agenda, they just don't try. They may even be physically intimidated by special interest groups and of course, the Fatwa thing. Even on this site we see reactions every day to off the wall humour which would have been unusual just 20 years ago although I will admit, the Victorians might have been similarly sensitive.

Obviously, much is driven by the press in their relentless pursuit of material to meet the demands of 24 hour broadcasting, (and indeed the internet), but nonetheless, there is a very much lighter trigger on outrage than I think has ever previously been the case.

That clearly suggests that outrage itself is devalued. So, whilst fairly minor embarrassments find themselves front page news; equally, we seem to have a softer tolerance for real and meaningful outrage such as rape and murder.

Obviously the world, and the UK particularly, has changed and continues to evolve. We will never return to the days of distant childhood when people, whatever their circumstances, just seemed to be more cheerful and more generous in spirit. ................but it's not much fun living in a world full of miserable pessimists.
And I thought evolution was meant to improve us :(

From what I can see here, not many serving or ex forces people, have any concern re Jimmy's joke, comment or whatever. I suppose that not too many folk have the same sense of humour or capacity to send up the ridiculous, as most NAAFI Bar posters seem to possess. I can really understand the parents of these guys getting upset, especially the mums. But politicians? what a fcuking liberty, self serving cnuts. Particularly Bob Jobsworth, that tw@t is already way out on a limb.

Do not argue with an idiot. He will drag you down to his level and beat you with experience.
    Alternatively, put stacker1 on ignore.

I didn't say it was your fucking fault, I said I was blaming you.

Agreed, it's that whole overblown gay thing with the weird gay voice and the glasses and buck teeth. Why do they feel the need to do that? Can't stand him.
    Fuck it.

Re: Jimmy Carr Mocks Limbless Soldiers On Stage.

i have no opinion on this particular joke and i would be hypocritical to condemn it given that i have previously paid money to see him live - and very good he was too...

...what is interesting though is the lack of (real) national outrage regarding this stunt...had he made the gag about a bus-load of downies, or blacks or gays, etc there would have been genuine uproar..."the chattering Classes of Islington" would have gone into overdrive...here was a gag about a disabled people - it seems to have been justified by virtue of their occupation

    ...just a thought?

oh and i just read an article in today's Indy about this...the journo quoted arrse heavily but sadly lost all credibility when he described headley court as the neighbouring NHS establishment to Selly Oak!

Re: Jimmy Carr Mocks Limbless Soldiers On Stage.

Reading the previous posts, I was reminded of something that happened years ago. I was having a lunchtime drink with friends and one of them had an epileptic fit, a biggie, a grand mal. The poor bugger was thrashing around on the floor and we were trying to hold him steady etc, when one of the guys said.
"Tight fisted cunt, he'll do anything to get out of buying a round." I can't begin to say how funny it was, with all the panic taking place.
