    Troop levels in Afghanistan

Link to NY Times graph over time of US & Allies troops in Afghanistan

Very US centred but still a useful indicator of escalation.

    Re: Troop levels in Afghanistan

    Interesting.

Remember the thread about who's not pulling their weight etc a week or so ago? Notice the graphics show combat battalions only, not the number of PRTs or their makeup (mix of military and civil), OMLTs, civil aid programmes, support to governance, spt to essential services etc etc.

Also, what would be really interesting would be to see the cause and effect relationship between tropp levels and level of "Taliban" activity and whether population feels more or less secure after what you refer to as "escalation".

Also, part II, where are Afghan military and Police units more effective?

    Just a thought.
