    First poppy sighted

Just seen someone in town this morning wearing a poppy. It looked a bit tatty, suggesting it's probably one he recycled from last year. Not that I'm having a go (any publicity is good publicity, and he's paid money for it at some point) but isn't it a bit early? To me putting on a poppy this early just proves you're a tight arse, so why flaunt it?

It might be an aniversary of someones death. We have flowers laid on the War memorial on different days throughout the year and some of the Star organisations lay wreaths as well.

    Not sure just a thought
I don't care if you hate me, I don't live to fucking please you.

There was a unopened box of them at a local garden centre on Monday. Seemed to have just arrived in the post. I'll admit that the one on my forage cap is still there from last year ...

First one I seen is mine, been wearing it all year, its a small metal pin poppy, but will deffo be putting into the coffers in November, as always.

I remember all the time. its hard to forget when its happening so often.

    Rememberance day is essential.

Me too, wear my enamel pin every day on my tie, i bought a few so the kids all have one as well.
This should be agony. I should be a mass of aching muscle — broken, spent, unable to move. And, were I an older man, I surely would… But I’m a man of 30 — of 20 again. The rain on my chest is a baptism. I’m born again

There are 2 wreaths on the local cenotaph - personal opinion but remembrance is all year round, Wearing my poppy is just a public symbol of my support. A poppy sits on my computer all the time, as long as folk still remember why they are worn I don't mind

Yep, got the enamel one in my jacket and a poppy on the wall in my office.
But I still buy a new one - and a wreath each year of course.
    Fuck it.

    THE FINAL INSPECTION

The soldier stood and faced God,
Which must always come to pass.
He hoped his shoes were shining,
Just as brightly as his brass.

    'Step forward now, you soldier,
How shall I deal with you ?
Have you always turned the other cheek ?
To My Church have you been true?'

The soldier squared his shoulders and said,
    'No, Lord, I guess I ain't.
Because those of us who carry guns,
    Can't always be a saint.

I've had to work most Sundays,
And at times my talk was tough.
    And sometimes I've been violent,
Because the world is awfully rough.

But, I never took a penny,
    That wasn't mine to keep...
Though I worked a lot of overtime,
When the bills got just too steep.

And I never passed a cry for help,
Though at times I shook with fear.
    And sometimes, God, forgive me,
    I've wept unmanly tears.

    I know I don't deserve a place,
    Among the people here.
    They never wanted me around,
    Except to calm their fears.

If you've a place for me here, Lord,
    It needn't be so grand.
I never expected or had too much,
But if you don't, I'll understand.

There was a silence all around the throne,
Where the saints had often trod.
    As the soldier waited quietly,
For the judgment of his God.

    'Step forward now, you soldier,
    You've borne your burdens well.
    Walk peacefully on Heaven's streets,
You've done your time in Hell.'

    I'm vomiting here. Pretentious garbage.
