Would he know the Lairage Area? What delicacies came on the train on Fridays? What was the Better 'ole? What happened at Robin's Nest? Why did the HK Riot Police have lahtis? What was on the menu at Bill Cheung's and who was he ??
Can he speak Cantonese? It was pretty much mandatory when I was in HK for the police, local or gweilo - I knew a couple of the boys back then but have lost touch with all of them sadly.
He will also know about Peter Godber, the bent HK cop (although back then apparently they ALL were) who's actions eventually lead to the forming of the ICAC - Independent Commission Against Corruption
Or even I Can Accept Cash
Other questions may be:
From which side of the bar in MKT Border Police bar could you see the border crossing
When was Josephine (Red Lips) born Which was the best curry house in Sek Kong
Which parts of OC MKT police body were not his own?
Shaffis
Strictly speaking that could be a wider "have served in HK" question
The major didn't think of his superiors as fools, of course,
since it would follow that everyone who obeyed them was a
fool. He used the term 'unwise', and felt worried when he used
it.

I could not dig: I dared not rob:
Therefore I lied to please the mob.
Now all my lies are proved untrue
And I must face the men I slew.
What tale shall serve me here among
Mine angry and defrauded young?
As a newbie to ARRSE, can I ask a question. Why the obsession with getting people to prove they are what they say they are? I can, to an extent, understand the vitriol with which people are viewed when they say they served when they haven't, given the fact that soldiers are dying on a daily basis. But a Hong Kong cop? If he wants to big himself up then surely he's the one that's going to take the s*** when it all goes belly-up. Does it really affect your life to the extent where you need to expend your time and effort on checking him out?
It's just a personal opinion, that's all.
You might well wonder. At a recent ARRSE crawl someone tried to "out" me as an Aid Convoy Humanitarian worker walt...
Don't think he was expecting me to know all the correct answers! :D
Hey ho, it was late and much beer had been consumed....
Buggerall, is the red lips still open??
If memory serves, the police used to use an old bus as their ops room up in the Mai Po. Can only remember the Mackenzie forts in MKT though. Happy days.
