Discuss Union Flag Badge is 'Offensive' says Met at the The Intelligence Cell forum within the The Army Rumour Service website; This Union Flag Badge is offensive to me....
'The honesty and bravery of our fighting forces stands in stark contrast to the weasel words and dishonesty of their political masters'. Liam Fox Now with 'added irony'!
Is it?
The Union Flag could never be offensive to me, regardless of who chooses to stand under it. By being offended by it you allow the BNP to claim some sort of ownership of it.

You are, of course, quite right. I'm offended that they seek to associate themselves with the Union Flag and that they put it on their logo. Thank you for pointing out my error.

IMO the police uniform should include a decent-sized Union Flag (50mmx25mm) on the left shoulder anyway. Nothing wrong with a bit of national pride.
A bit tacky if you ask me, which you didn't, but I'm going to expand anyway.
I am quite content with the unspoken, unflaunted type of very British pride which doesn't have to have over-enthusiastic, try-hard displays of patriotism everywhere and anywhere. We are very good at displaying national pride as and where apropriate, a solitary picture of HM, the loyal toast at formal dinners, watching trooping the colour, to name but a few.
I don't think we really need to go in for flags on police uniforms, everyone knows they are British police by virtue of the fact they are Police in Britain. Union flags are worn on military uniforms now because we operate with multi-national forces so much and we have lost the distinguishing colours and cut we used to rely on to identify us, union flags haven't found their way onto No.2s or 1s (and heaven forfend it ever does).
That being said, a lapel pin worn in support of our countries armed forces who are embroiled in a war is totally and entirely appropriate. And it's disgusting that they are being prohibited, if this countries armed forces offends anyone, they should really leave the country, since the forces do the countries democratic will, by extention.
Just like a white feather should be worn by every member of the UCL SU, whatever they are wearing .
Living as I do in a town with a large immigrant population I believe there is an agenda in some quarters to have an non union flag flying above the town centre. Those that think I am also being hysterical are in themselves being very shortshighted IMO.
A visit to the local market would give you many voices and english not being in the majority.
Am I being hysterical....... no I dont believe I am. Concerned at the demise of my rights and my ability to speak about it yes.
Since when did flying your own countries flag or demonstrating your allegience to your own country become offensive.
The thin end of the wedge is becoming ever thicker.
Without doubt our once great country is losing its identity due to inept immigration laws and weak governments.Looks like we to far down the road to ever reclaim it.
There has to be an all out effort to fly our flag wherever the opportunity avails itself. No other country in the world sucks up to other peoples objections like ours and it fcuking stinks.

Well, not quite speechless but shocked none the less. I wear a subdued OG velcro on UJ on the front of my vest and no-ones ever picked me up on it, In all fairness, even if they did so, I wouldn't remove it.
My bold above, are you not in a semi disciplined organisation? You should do whatever you are jolly well told by your superiors young man!
On a serious not, good to hear that they have rescinded the daft order, at least you buffoons will no longer be flouting your own dress regs!
