Since when did flying your own countries flag or demonstrating your allegience to your own country become offensive.[quote]

    Since 1997 oddly enough.

As a slightly different thought is there not some law (there must be one as there is for everything else) to prevent the BNP from utilising the Union Flag within their sales literature.

    Would this solve the issue?

When this treasonous government got into power claiming things can only get better.

Oh how hollow those words ring now.

Interesting point. The legislation about Trade Marks says you will not be allowed to register a trade mark containing either the UK national flag or
the flag of England, Wales, Scotland, Northern Ireland or the Isle of Man, if it appears that the use of the trade mark would be misleading or grossly offensive. However, this will only prevent registration of a trade mark and does not actually prevent someone from using the flag.

So you think it should be an offence for the BNP, a fully legal British Political party to utilise the Union flag on any BNP branded literature or media, however, we should allow Labour/Conservatives/LibDems etc to use it?

We live in a democracy my friend, you may not agree with the politics of some parties but that doesn't mean they are wrong or, that others in the country may not have different opinions to you.

Personally I hate rap music but unfortunately that is not good enough reason to either ban it or stop rappers wearing our flag if they so wish.

AFA, well pointed out mate. It seems that some people only like freedom of speach and expression when it suits their own agenda. You might hate rap, I personally can't stand Lady Gaga, or the BNP, they both talk sh1te, I say this as Pokerface is playing on the radio and I want to throw it out of the window.

I can't believe this thread is still going considering the climbdown by the met who are now allowing their officers to wear the sodding badge.

Do you mean the Met.(and other forces in England) should weAr the Cross of St. George? That is, after all , the English national flag.
No I mean every police force in the UK should proudly display the union flag,

Ive been a copper for nearly 20 years and its about time we started to display national pride and force pride on our uniforms instead of crappy corporate badges,

My uniform consists of the small word police on my sleeves and the words police on my left chest and on my back, a badge fixed by magnets which say sergent on my shirt instead of stripes

I want my force badge back, I want my national flag on my arm, and I want to display my rank so people can see it and not have to wear a crappy badge with the words Sergeant on it,
