I'm by the river on the Fulham side - it sounded like it was coming from Putney. None of the news desks I know heard anything or so they say - I suspect it was a firefight with terrorists and CI5 have made sure a D notice is in force (again).

or it could have been fireworks....

friend once went to the big green gathering in warminister.
Was trying to mediate on world peace.
quite distracting with helicopters and gunfire in the background
On a Hot morning in cyprus I found the meaning of anger. Fortunataly I was comftably numb.
The RSM and various other NCO's seemed very agitated.
maybe they should look into counselling?

Expect Bodie and Doyle to do a forward roll through your front windows any minute now...

I remember a large excericse on the Plain culminating 10 Para attacking 45 RM. It was fairly dark but between us and the RM positions we could see and hear a large family group sitting around a camp fire singing heartily. They just about got to '..happy birthday to yooooou....' when the first flare went up.

The sound of blanks, thunderflashes and childish screams echoed down the valley..

IIRC, Libyans once demonstrated outside the British Embassy in Tripoli with placards reading Down With CI5!
