Re: 'Barron' Castleshort part IV
There appears to have been some scaling back on the miniatures this year. The count at the 2007 dinner was 10. This year it seems to be 9 including the 2007 Lavtian gong. A reduction of 2.
Looking at James Shortt's Dodgy Uniforms and Medals the missing medals are:
5. Papal - Knight of the Order of St Gregory The Great.
7. ??? Probably a Galloglas creation
He is still a Belgian veteran of WW1 & WW2.

is never lost, he is merely geographically disorientated.
is never drunk, he is socially confused.
never comes, he arrives.

Re: 'Barron' Castleshort part IV
And from the Australian IBA website --
""""""James Shortt The Baron Castleshort
James Shortt The Baron Castleshort was a student and protégé of Lucien Ott's and led IBA training teams to the Baltic Republics, Afghanistan, Russia, Ukraine and Kazakstan. Training Teams were dispatched by the current Director General to train UN Forces at Tuzla in Bosnia and elements of the Security Forces of the European Union (EEC).
He became the first outsider to train KGB (Crimea 1991) and started training for bodyguards (Government and Corporate) in Poland (198
Estonia (1989) Latvia and Lithuania (1990). He pioneered the IBA method in Russia, Ukraine, Kazakhstan and Mongolia. To date he has trained bodyguards on 5 continents including 36 countries.
The Baron Castleshort is the hereditary Colonel commandant of one of the oldest existing bodyguard formation in the world. The Royal Galloglas Guard. Galloglas originated in Western Scotland and its isles from the warlike offspring of mixed Celtic and Viking marriages. Following their success against the Anglo-Normans under Sir William Wallace and King Robert the Bruce, they were established in Ireland at the turn of the 14th Century. """""
No mention of his military career, or his experience !!! On the specialist course Jimbo will teach about bodyguard operations in Iraq and Afghanistan --- hey Jimbo, what is your saying -- a virgin cant teach you how to FXXX .... Ermmm BG ops in Iraq and afghanistan ---- when did you do BG ops in anywhere other than on courses for the IBA ???, and especially in high risk countries !!!!

Re: 'Barron' Castleshort part IV
I'm pleased to see him reeling in some of the borrocks he's been strutting for so long.
All he's going to be left with is the risible Gallumphing Fairy-tale Guard ... that should impress the customers!!

Preface from the book Defense Security, Tome 1 published in 1981 by Lucien Victor Ott. The preface is written by Günter Schäfer.
I.B.A. is not mentioned in here either; perhaps I.B.A. didn't exist in 1981... Defense Security however has been mentioned in Lucien’s books since 1964.

Re: 'Barron' Castleshort part IV
A very fair post, David ... I am comfortable that Ott was of some use in what he did.
Sadly Mr Shorrt rather abused the memory of the late M Ott.

Re: 'Barron' Castleshort part IV
Shortt is nothing but a wretched poltroon & poseur.
To think the Bandmaster used Shortt's sword (that he brought in it's case for the occasion) with the bottle is noted. Bandmaster didn't look very much at ease with our poltroon. Concerned at photos being seen by O.C. London District...just across the road from the venue.
Shortt possibly fancied his Frock Coat (bet he has got one of those....yet)
Bit disappointed that the Bandmaster didn't run the poltroon through with his, be doing the Division a service.Too Many Clowns, not enough Circuses
