To James Short[t] Papal Knight, Baron of Castleshoite and other dubious accolades.
I DogDrool, Master of the bed rolls and Mutts Cahoonas do hereby award you the hereditery title of The BAFTA.
It is with great joy that you receive the Bullshit Award For Terminal Arrseholes from a grateful audience for the enjoyment you have given over the last few months. It is probably the only legitimate award you have ever received, please wear it with pride, and if you would like to turn up to the planned reception at the back of Dagenham bus station the award committe can't wait to nail it to your skull.
In other news Its taken all day to wend my way through this thread and it has made compelling reading. Congratulations to you all for an outstanding piece of work.

Dogdrool trust me a lot of of effort is going on to bring Shortt a few home truths and give him his just rewards. He knows it and is now running scared. The IBA is now laughing at him as a liar, fantasist and fraudster. I pity the decent honest members of the IBA who were hoodwinked & bought into James Shortts lies and deception.

A slightly none relevant note, I don't know if any of you have seen a film "Catch me if you can" staring De-caprio, I'm watching at mo on Telly, Its a film based on a true story about American conman Frank Abagnale Jr.

Most entertaining, and then I realised, we have got jim shortt all wrong. shorty don't wannabe a SF hero, shorty is a wannabe and copycat Frank Abagnale Jr.

And since Abegnale ended up working for the FBI, that implies that shortt might one day work for ARRSE as the Waltfinder General. :D
Abegnale was a skilled exponent of forgery. shortt is only skilled in bluffing. Close, but no cigar shortt. You cnut.

Actually shortt, you're not even close.
    Fuck it.

    Re: 'Baron' Castleshort Part III

    A couple of thoughts..

Like others, I have often found myself looking at 'Major' Lucien Victor Ott and wondering....and ultimately I have come to the conclusion that Ott is like so much else in the Shortt fairytale - just another piece of semi-real/fantasy lego that Shortt has collected over the years in order to add another building block to the shoddy edifice of his image. Ott strikes me as something of a proxy fantasy figure that Shortt has used as a sort of canvas to paint military/intelligence credentials onto his own back story and that of the IBA, and serve as a superman figure in whose reflected glory Shortt can bask. Whether Ott's credentials are true or not is largely irrelevant - personally, I'm very doubtful - as it doesn't change what Shorrt is - his claims, his posturing, the uniforms.

I'm doubtful that anything concrete can or will be done about Shortt in the Republic of Ireland (naturally, I hope to be proven wrong) for a number of reasons. Firstly, his profile in the RoI is, as far as I can tell, small to non-existant. He's smart enough to not draw too much attention to himself, as even now his bigging-up of service in H.M. Forces (let alone the SAS and Paras) is not likely to overly endear him to many people in the RoI. Through a friend, a Wexford-based journalist was alerted to Shortt and the response was somewhat muted - put bluntly, don't expect a journalistic exposé from Wexford.

Will 'offical authorities' in the RoI take a look at Shortt? Possibly (and perhaps already), but how seriously depends on if he is regarded as being in breach of Irish laws. Unfortunately, his 'extensive military background' does not include any mention of the Irish Defence Forces, as this would have earned him some immediate and unwelcome attention close to home before now; people either won't care or won't be outraged enough in sufficent numbers about his 'service in H.M. Forces', so in this regard Shortt is walking between the raindrops.

Shortt's response to awkward queries and unwelcome attention has been to issue blustering threats of legal action, and then go silent as the grave and drop off the radar if a real sh*tstorm looks like breaking. I believe he has done this on a number of occasions over the years, and it is a tactic which has served him well thus far. This saga has a ways to run yet I feel, and the multiple layers and blind alleys which characterise it mean that any outcome may well be a long time in coming.

This is interesting from my point of view, as I was standing next to a justifiably irate Peter in Moscow when he made that telephone call......
