04-12-2011, 18:05 #41We should remember the tremendous contribution of the Queen Mother to the war effort:
As the BBC pointed out, she 'bravely remained in London beside her husband' during the war.
This contrasts sharply with the actions of my grandfather who, on the declaration of war immediately left his wife and children and pissed off, first to France, then North Africa, Italy, France (again) and finally Germany.
The shame will always be with us.

[QUOTE=Emsav;4096353]What is the likelihood of a second occurrence? QUOTE]
Nil - Unless he's an idiot he will go off with stress whilst they find him a Sergeants role that doesn't involve being within shouting distance of the public and ride out the rest of his career under the radar. Why? Because his bosses will be looking for ANY excuse to prove that their reaction was not knee jerk, they were indeed right to sack him and they are willing to try and do so again.
A Crime fiddling Manager (Sorry, Crime Recording Manager) type role is full of "Old School" types who know that if you deal with the public sooner or later you're going to end up doing something that needs justifying which may just interfere with collecting your pension. As this case has proven. Even doing something that looks bad but is legitimate can ruin your career, get you sacked and potentially see you in a prison cell.
What I would say though is I still think he went about this whole scenario the wrong way and as such left him wide open to allegations of going over the top. The WPC who had time on her hands to observe from a safe distance should have been the one with hands on, or at worst a custody assistant. A good custody sergeant should never have to get off his chair, hence why the best ones are generally the fattest in my experience.
Its funny. Had this been a 17yr old male acting in the exact same manner the press would never have got so excited, the bosses would never have got into a flap and we'd have never heard of this Sergeant.

Actually he should report for work soonest. Then, at the first sign of anybody trying to address any real or perceived infractions, pull out the bullying and harassment card before getting signed off with stress. In addition, he should go for his inspector's ticket as soon as possible - what fun he'll have if he doesn't make the grade. Life from now on in should be a ball - he should enjoy it to the full.
Facts not fiction please
