    Phase one, bullshit central.

Phase two, 'We don't do bullshit for bullshits sake'.. unless we feel like it.

    Field Army, 'Big boys rules!'

Are there any TA soldiers about? I am in the process of transferring to 5 MI and was just looking for an inside scoop. I have the selection weekend at the end of Feb (awaiting JI's and the such so I'll avoid asking any questions that they will inevitably answer). I've had the initial brief (albeit a year ago) but I was looking if I could chat to anyone about the TA Int Corps.

Are there any "Look at Life" visits for the Int Corps? I've spoken to my recruiters and they weren't sure-I have to get back to them later in the week, but I thought if someone is in the know here it would settle my curiosity quicker.

    Thank you!

If you are transfering into the Corps then you may be invited to visit your local Section so that you can see a snapshot of a day in the Corps, ask questions of those there etc. This will also allow the Corps (through the WOIC or Sect Comd) to have a look at you.

Officers are fired out to a Bn while on the Junior Officers Course for a week or so, and get a flavour of the Sections within the Bn.

If you are coming in from Civvie Street, then you will be a bit blind until you get to Phase 1. You may be allowed to ask the DS (who may be badged Int Corps) some questions, and some more at Phase 2. Other than that...you've dipped. Look at the 'Life as an OPMI' thread below this one. It may answer some immediate questions.

    Just a heads up.

Anybody going on selection should know the new selection process is incredibly competitive. In fact, main board is comparable! Even If you pass the selection for the week, you still need to have a high enough score to put you in the top X number of people for the month, good luck.

    You won't lose your rank.

You'll put your transfer paperwork in, if you have the necessary quals and they like the look of you, they'll call you up for a couple of days selection at Chicksands. You'll do various tests and tasks as part of the process, and you'll be pitted against other transferees. They are very selective as they can afford to turn down even potentially good soldiers.

At the end of the 2 days, they'll tell you there and then if you are successful or not and give you a date on which you can start training.

The OPMI 3 course is changing so much at the moment, the last course is different to the current course, and in turn will be completely different from the next.

very helpful thanks, just to go on though. Im looking at three options as im completly threaders with the regiment im with now. Im looking at either a posting to another artillery unit, or int corps. Iv heard cap badge transfers can take up to 12 months, i cant wait that long, especially knowing how much im going to get shit on once i put the papers in, my boss is with me all the way however the regiment frowns up on cap badge transfers. Also i dont want to wait a year to find im unsuccessful then be back at square one . Could you shed some light on the time scale involved in coming to the int corps or at least getting to a selction weeknd.

The time scales vary I'm afraid, though I think that 12mnths is a bit extreme. Once you put your papers in for transfer, I don't think that the CoC can stop it. Then it is all down to Glasgow, and the two MCM's (RA and Int Corps) talking to each other. From what I hear they are quite close together. If Int Corps Manning like the look of you (based on copies of your SJARs) they'll push to get you to Chicksands. However, as stated by Forks, it is by no means a done deal. The Corps is very popular at the moment.

Have you knocked on the door of your local section? You can ask if you can come visit for a day (your Boss could help arrange this), or have you been to an Internal Transferee Fair? It is likely that the Int Corps will have a presence there.

    Good luck

Re: Int Corps Recruiting, Familiarisation etc...

It took me 12 months from stating I wanted a transfer to getting my selection interviews (16 months to actually start training). This was mainly due to being on ops at the time, have a couple of months skiing, post tour leave, 3 weeks of Easter leave, having to contact exam boards for copies of lost certificates, a month of ceremonial duty, a month of summer leave...

Finally got my interviews shortly after coming back from leave! So you see mine wasn't really a typical situation, but was entirely worth the wait. I estimate it would have taken 3-5 months had I not been so busy with my unit and had all my certificates.

    Dean

You will find a lot more about some topics over on Navy net, but NOT here . Sufficient to say that you will need to demonstrate a degree of personal security awareness if you want to progress in the areas you are now intrested in.

I am guessing you are with 39 Regt RA and own a Ford Fiesta, but originally come from Stoke? You might like to try the OP battery first, if that works, come back in a few years.
It was not the intelligence agencies who failed......
but that intelligence was made subordinate to policy

im assuming that is a dig , fair one pal, however a name, a reg and a car isnt a great deal of detail about me, the good stuff is well protected, maybe ive already of thought of this. Thanks fo letting everyone else know.

OP battery, im assuming you mean 4/73 special op battery part of 5th RA, however most gun regiments have an OP battery, not really for me however, your more of an OP's bitch as a lower rank.
