this kind of 'sighs' at Line Infantry, which is strange as it the British Army Website

    "INFANTRY COMMANDO
The Role: Infantry Commandos are some of the world's best soldiers - strong, tough and versatile in the field. On the front line you will work closely with the Navy's Royal Marines and Army's ground troops, providing a vital link between land and sea.

The Skills: To become a Commando you must pass the All Arms Commando course, an advanced soldier programme run by the Royal Marines. Becoming a Commando is also a big step towards selection for a Special Forces unit like the SAS."

Ive been RAC and Inf - both have good points, good had bad points.

Without one you cant have the other.

Same with support - going to go to war somewhere, forget RAF, Marines, Para etc etc - go and speak to the logisticians (sp?) first otherwise all you blades will get as far as Dover

Ask yourself a question. Have you ever seen the film "Saving Craftsman Ryan"?
That has got to be one of the best CSS arm put downs I have ever heard.

Its been good to read the positive things you guys have to say about the Infantry as a whole, wish some of the units I have been attached to had the same attitude towards themselves instead of the usual "This is Sh*t".

Being REME I have been in some sticky situations myself and with hand on heart those were the times when I thought "Hmm wished we had more training" Rest of the time it tends to get in the way of keeping the kit on the road.

I love my Corp and fixing vehicles is what I joined up to do "Keeping the punch in the Armies fist" and all that. Every man jack should enjoy his role in the army otherwise do one.

Keep up the good work lads and please try not to break the kit as much :D

It all depends on the individual, every has its down falls, all i can say that if i was able to turn back time i would not change my job. I always look at it its one of a few jobs in the Army that you are not able to do in civy street. Most people that join or transfer will probably find it a shock to the system at the beggining but soon get used to the pace of life. Have you thought about getting attached to an infantry unit before transfering. My unit 3 Mercian have just had some Arty and Army Air core attchaded to us for a couple of years.

I had the most fun and was the most scared in infantry units. While all the other moving parts of any military force have their pros and cons, until we figure out another way to close with and destroy our enemies through fire and maneuver and physically hold ground, all these other functions are ultimately to support the infantryman. I liked being on the pointy end of the spear.
"A democracy cannot survive as a permanent form of government. It can last only until its citizens discover that they can vote themselves largesse from the public treasury. From that moment on, the majority (who vote) will vote for those candidates promising the greatest benefits from the public purse, with the result that a democracy will always collapse from loose fiscal policies, always followed by a dictatorship." Lord Thomas MacCauley 1857
