Gurkhas have never served in NI. This is because of the tri-partite agreement between UK, Nepal and India. The British Govt. is not allowed to use Gurkhas in internal conflict matters.
There was never any such clause in the Tripartite Agreement, although it is often trotted out when this subject comes up. There is a stipulation that the Gurkhas can't be used against their own countrymen, but that was always more applicable to India than the UK.
Gurkhas have been used for IS duty in Hong Kong when it was a British Colony and of cpourse, the are recruited by BGN for the Gurkha Contingent Singapore Police, whose entire raison d'etre is IS duty. The bar on service in Ulster was always a matter of convention rather than statute and has never, to my knowledge, been actually justified in public on the record. Thus naturally, theories abound.
Ghurkhas definately served / patrolled in Dungannon about 12 years ago (If I recall correctly the "republicans" kept a low profile during the tour and were quite wary of them)

'About 12 years ago' would have seen 2 Para back in N.Ireland, but their Gurkha Reinforcement Coy (C Coy) were sent to Bosnia on Palatine instead. So I'd be interested to know which Gurkha unit you saw there.

i believe it was the royal para rifles gurkha guards... with a strong connection to yorkshire.
In my nigh on 2 decades of service a formed Gurkha unit has NEVER served in NI.
RGR officers may have seconded to the HQs or Light Div units, like wise Corps officers (QGS, QGE and QGTR/LR) may have been tardy in removing their Gurkha embellisments.
A SINGLE QGLR soldier (Nepali) has been to NI and possibly got the medal, he was doing something or other with Saxon and appeared in the Gurkha Brigade magazine (Parbat).
I know this because whilst serving with the QGS, there came up a chance to go to NI to get trained on some equipment. The Gurkha lads in my section who were picked were very excited and were very interested in how long they'd be in province, and how long they needed to be there to get the medal.
This was 2002/3. As far as they were concerned no Gurkha (ie Nepalese) soldier had served in province and received a medal. The loggie guy was about a year after this.
The training package was never realised, by the way.
Well we're all rather hoping that you would. After all you're the one that saw them there.
Becaue it was "Morally repugnant", NI people being British, Ghurkas were banned from serving in Northern Ireland. They were never in NI and certainly not in uniform. Now if one went up-homers with an oppo I don't know but the OP is wrong in supposing that those medals constitute proof.

Found it. Perhaps this extract from the Belfast paper....
The use of former Gurkhas among teams of mostly ex-military personnel to protect Belfast wheel clampers is "unbelievable" and out of proportion, the city's lord mayor said.
Teams including former officers from the British Brigade of Gurkhas were seen on the Falls and Shankill Roads on Wednesday.
Everest Security, which employs the Gurkhas, has been hired by National Car Parks (NCP) to cut the number of untaxed cars on the road.
